Death Metal

Don’t wanna get flamed out of my mind for these, but I want your guys opinions as they are some of my favorite ‘gym’ listening bands and I break many PR’s listening to these lately.

In Flames (any album)

sonic Syndicate (might be too mainstream for you guys)

All that remains (new album overcome is sick)

Killswitch Engage (any album)

I don’t know if those classify as your ‘type’ of music. Occasionally I find a ‘death’ or ‘black’ metal song that I like but personally just don’t get too into them.

I’ll throw the flame suit on just in case I stepped on some toes…I like rock/metal and it’s variations, but I’ll admit I’m a noob person when it comes to the ‘culture’ that comes along with it. lol

Personally, mentioning any of these bands in a thread on Death Metal deserves a good flaming. Again, that’s just my personal opinion. Too many metalcore, deathcore, and all these other mall kids coming up with bands and not having any clue of the bands that truly helped to create and inspire other bands since the 80’s. Entombed, Dismember, Grave, Carcass, Pestilence, Bolt Thrower, Benediction, Cancer, Death, just to name some of the more popular…I won’t even get into the lesser know bands. Besices, I’m not fully awake yet, haha.

Granted In Flames started off decently enough, but they have long since lost their way. The others you mentioned, just don’t have it.

I’m glad that the scene has seen a sort of rebirth the past few years, and I still listen to all the oldies and goodies…some new bands as well. But I pretty much turned to Black Metal back around 1991 and have stuck with it ever since.

Right on…I was unsure what those bands would be classified as. lol

Yeah, they’re pretty good. I think they sometimes break into too many harmonies and melodies, though.

Not quite death metal, but has anyone heard the new Beneath the Massacre CD yet?

The new Napalm Death is utterly insane.

I recently came across these guys Criminal Element, they are made up of guys from Dying Fetus, Misery Index, and the bassist from Suffocation. There is no youtube vid yet, so here is the myspace:

Fucking kick-ass shit.

Needs more black metal

Somehow, you are the last person I expected to be listening to any of the extreme-metal genres (no offense)

Really eh?
Why wouldn’t you expect it? I’m actually fairly into BM, though I used to be a lot more I still love it. Emperor is by far my favourite band of all time. I can’t get enough of em’

Nah, there was a thread already for that. It had a good twenty posts on it.

Skaz, I saw you brought up Warbringer. I think I’m seeing a show with them, Goatwhore, and Krisiun coming up pretty soon. I could be mixing up that lineup, though - so many shows coming!

I’m feeling Disavowed a lot right now… kind of forgot they existed.

Also, just found Inveracity and Inherit Disease a week ago. Diggin’ both of them.

LMFAO

Good 20 posts. Damnit…
I’m gonna have to crawl back into my cave in the Nodric Wilderness. I’m grim like that.

I dunno man, you just never gave off any “signals” (in the posts of you which I read/remember), so to speak.

Emperor need to get back together and release a follow-up to Prometheus…

I listen to a lot of stuff. I used to be a lot more into the black and death scene than I am now. I still listen to it, but I’ve broadened my horizons sort of speak. I’ve started to enjoy different kinds of metal, instead of just the one thing I’ve always listened to.

I’m actually listening to Immortal right now too. Abbath is seriously awesome, I love how he doesn’t take himself seriously at all. Fuckin character right to the end.

I prefer Iron maiden,Lordi,Metallica,Motorhead ect and some shit you guys would really hate lawl.

Everyone loves those bands. With the possible exception of Lordi.

No, death metal is arguably metal boiled down to its pure essentials. Hammering riffs, blasting drums and testosterone-soaked howls of rage. Some people can’t handle it, and for those people VH1 was invented.

I remember being a wee lad and watching the music channels that came with our basic cable package. There was ALWAYS a hardcore metal one and I was introduced to some of the greatest bands nobody’s ever heard. Good times; spacing out in my room watching a blank screen and listening to some awesome music.

Also, I recently downloaded Burzum’s albums again. I tried hard to order them but neither FYE or Warehouse could get 'em for me. So Varg is not going to be receiving any of my money, sadly…

Not everyone! I can dead with some of Metallica’s older stuff, but that’s about it.

I’m going to have to disagree to an extent with this. I think any good death metal worth listening to is actually quite varying, complex, and wildly creative. I’m NOT calling you musically un-trained here, but to the untrained ear, I can see how it’d sound like all of that - especially the drums (which I LOVE blasting drums!) Fact is, it’s one of the more intricate and complex genres of metal on generally. Pretty varied, too. That’s why metal is the king of all genres, no contest.

Just off the top of my head, think about The Berzerker vs. Voivod vs. At the Gates vs. Hate Eternal vs. Neuraxis. 5 bands a lot of people would consider “death metal,” 5 bands that are totally different.

Anywho - I was really glad when this thread was made. It’s good to see that there’s some who still see the darkness in all of the light (horrible, horrible joke.)
