Amazing band. (Although I haven’t heard that much from them.)

What are they like? I’ve seen them mentioned a few times but that’s about it.

Remember the review I sent you? The emperor + magog review ?
The opening track paragraph is kind of what a lot of their songs are like. What they seem to like to do is bring a lot of atmosphere into their songs. They’ll drop everything for over a minute and out of nowhere slam into that ‘organized chaos’ thing all over again. Shrieks, blast beats, pounding guitars. The guitars aren’t very melodic, at least in the songs I’ve heard. Like I said, organized chaos. The riffs are just… there. I dunno how to explain it…

I’ll check some of their stuff out, thanks.

Emperor is the one I meant. Honestly though, I’m not that big of a fan of Deathspell, it’s a fairly acquired taste.

I have sort of been following along in this thread and the extreme metal thread and would like to thank you guys for introducing me to some of this music. At first, I was not a fan of the style of the vocals that many of the bands use, but it is growing on me. I really love the musicianship that these bands possess. It is incredible.

I put Death into Pandora and have been listening to some great music lately: Death, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Necrophagist, Kreator, Sepultura, and At the Gates. I am not sure if all of these bands qualify as death, but I like them.

good shit to bust down doors to in a 3rd world country

…And, you’re done.

C_C - I know what you’re saying about Cannibal Corpse. I only have a few of their albums, and find myself seldom listening to them all the way through. I don’t think it’s bad, per se, but as you said, nothing spectacular or terribly original.

I think sometimes I’m drawn to their ‘organized-chaos’ style, which has a lot of things going on at once that makes it sound like an automobile accident, but am impressed by how fairly tight they actually remain on most of their songs (and from what I’ve heard of them live.)

Organized chaos? I dunno dude, their song-structures and stuff resemble those of Mariah Carey from what I can tell
I think I’m being overly negative here, but yeah… Just not my kind of death metal.

Shit, I remember listening to their “bloody chunks” song.
Duh.

Organized Chaos = Deathspell Omega
Did someone say Deathspell Omega!?

Deathspell Omega - Obombration

Deathspell Omega - The Shrine Of Mad Laughter

Deathspell Omega - Bread Of Bitterness

Deathspell Omega-The Repellent Scars of Abandon and Election

Deathspell Omega - A Chore for the Lost

Deathspell Omega - Obombration II

This album wins so hard.

DEATH METAL KICKS ASS!SOME ONE PUT SLAYER ON HERE AND SLAYER IS NOT DEATH METAL! BUT I MOSTTLE HARDCORE/PUNK!

I agree with said post.

I’m going to sleep with this on for the night

Lykathea Aflame - An Old Man and a Child

Awesome band. I think they out do Nile on the Egyptian theme.

Slayer are way better than you and any band you likely listen to. They were massively influential in the formative years of death metal.

Like a violent stream of awesome noise that goes absolutely nowhere.

Cannibal Corpse is good. Their new album, I think, is better than Kill. Like most everyone else has already stated, I don’t actually sit down and “listen” to them. I do have a lot of Cannibal Corpse songs on my workout MP3 though.

Cannibal Corpse is killer to workout too. For the last week I’ve been blasting Zero The Hero over and over again. Awesome cover, the original was terrible.
I suppose they would be great for that, and it wouldn’t matter if songs were repeated because nobody could possibly tell!

Haha, sorry, I’m finished now…

I don’t really get the idea of buying albums for background music. If something isn’t good enough for me to sit and give it my full attention, it’s not worth my money.

But hey, that’s just me.

And that’s what the internet is for. I only buy albums for bands I all out support. I wouldn’t spend money on a band that’s already living in mansions and all that. I’m not rich, and I’d rather put my $20 towards a new container of whey.

However, lesser known bands I try and buy the album. Even after downloading something, I’ll often go to pick up the album. However, bands like Cannibal Corpse whom I enjoy listening to here and there… Well it’s just not worth the money to me.

Cheers for living in Canada where I’m still allowed to do this.

slayer kicks ass but is NOT!death metal! g.f.y.s.

I have to agree. Slayer is CLASSIC thrash.

Devourment gives me a raging hard-on.

Uhhh…I am certain that Slayer did influence the majority of the first generation of death metal.

wtf is classic thrash?

Evildead - The Underworld

Holy Terror - Terror and Submission

Sadus - Black

Anacrusis - Twisted Cross

Nuclear Assault - Critical Mass

Vio-lence - Eternal Nightmare

Protector - Misanthropy

Rigor Mortis- Bodily Dismemberment

Demolition Hammer - Carnivorous Obsession

Sepultura - Beneath the Remains

If you want to talk about thrash, there are plenty of other bands besides the typical Big Four.

I’m not saying they weren’t INFLUENTIAL: but death metal, they ain’t.

I saw Swallow the Sun live last weekend. They were awesome, but it’s just a shame that the headlining band/other supporting bands weren’t that great.

Although it was kind of funny seeing Soilwork (hugely popular, kind of shitty band) playing in front of about 80 people. :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t know why all these big metal acts even come to my town, haha.

Check out Amon Amarth, swedish viking death metal. Songs to look for are:

Death In Fire
Pursuit of the Vikings
Rune to My Memory

Theyre all good though…

Soilwork’s story is similar to In Flames’… Used to be a lot better/used to have way more potential but turned semi-numetal or whatever at some point and now they’re “famous”
