Yeah, there was a thread about on a metal forum that I also post on that was asking for donations for him, it’s sad to hear he’s in such disarray.
Fucked up for sure…
I don’t think our musical tastes are different at all, I just come from a background of being around Jazz/Latin/Classical musicians all my life How come? , so when I hear Death Metal bands that are starting to use above said genres in their sound, I analyze it more thoroughly than most people would. Other than that, I like to bang my head and destroy like any other metalhead
Hah, see, we come from opposite backgrounds then.
I had no interest in music whatsoever until I discovered death metal, back then the earlier stuff but I usually stuck to the more progressive bands rather than Cannibal Corpse (their early shit was really total trash imo… At least they have a pretty good bass player… He just never gets to really show his talent except on side-projects like Blotted Science).
So yeah, back then was when the whole “jazz/death” and “tech/death” thing started, so that’s where my roots lie… Gotta say that I still think that there’s only so much you can do for variation in your music until it more or less accidentally becomes “jazz/classically -influenced”… Though I don’t deny the influences in general.
There’s an awesome music program from where I went to High School, I’m a bass player myself, and we had a great Jazz program, so I was always around a lot of Jazz people, and I happen to friends with a lot of the violinsts, dated a few actually, and I come from an Hispanic background, and there’s a few latin guitar players in the family.
I went the direction most people do when they find metal Sabbath->Metallica_>Maiden->Gothenburg MeloDeath->Opeth->Death->Disgorge->Everything else
How come you found/got interested in metal at all?
I mean, from Jazz to Sabbath?

Something just clicked when I heard this
I almost instantly started headbanging and I’ve been listening to metal ever since.
