just listened to the first song…

I’m not typically a fan of progressive/technical stuff, but this is pretty good right here.

Hahaha… man, I really tried. Black metal is just so theatric. I see you’re a pretty big fan of the genre, I assume you like Emperor? They’re one of the sure-fire BM bands I know I can always get down on.

Anywho, a few more, as long as I’m here…

x2 on Monstrosity.

That Soreption was kickin’ as well, I didn’t know they released a full length last year. It’s hard to keep current with the metal these days, at least for me, that’s why I love these threads.

Open womb flesh
Death and disease

I see ethnic cleansing
Pain beyond belief
Whole nations murdered
Sorrow and grief

And I think to myself what a wonderful world

The silhouettes of murder
So pretty in the sky
Where rapists stare and wonder
At children passing by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying ‘How do you do’
But they’re really saying
Hey, Fuck you!

I see men talking peace
Words full of shit
Eyes welled with war
Poison and deceit

And I think to my self what a wonderful world

Yeah
I think to my self, what a wonderful world.
Oh yeah.

Only an accidental fan… it all kind of snuck up on me as my tastes shifted. Black metal, industrial death or black, porngrind, some goregrind… I don’t listen to much Emperor actually. For what it’s worth, I give all the goregrind you post a listen but it just hasn’t grabbed me yet. Guess I like simple shit. And the pitch shifter… I love pitch-shifted vocals.

Carnal Diafragma - Teletrambus

silverblood - thanks for posting Dukatalon, never heard of them, fucking awesome.

Amon Amarth’s Sutur Rising is out/leaked… Didn’t manage to get a hold of it though, they deleted all the files… From the songs available on youtube (the ones that don’t have goddamn copyright issues and are actually viewable) it seems like more of the same (last 2 albums)… Thought the “war of the gods” track was rather uninspired…

They covered SOAD’s “Arials” too… But without the voice adding melody it seems kind of off… Could have used some guitar leads or something to make up for that…

The first is ok, the second seems like the best of the album to me…
The rest are rather weak if you ask me… (instrumental is so-so).

There was better material on the first album I think… But I never thought that Obscura were all that great overall. A few good songs and the rest kind of meh.

Hannes (drummer) made some lofty claims on Derek Roddy’s forum about how the new album is going to blow people away and they’re doing stuff never done before or something like that…

And his drumming is really the weakest part of the entire album. Weakest drumming in his entire career possibly… Very simple/basic with a few exceptions… Fast of course but that’s hardly outstanding today… Such a lack of creativity this time around, what the hell…
He can do SO MUCH BETTER I just don’t get it. Disappointing to me… Some cool bass parts as usual but also a lot of totally bland ones…

I hope the new necrophagist can make up for this…

So, now that I’ve gotten a chance to listen to the new Obscura. . . I’m disappointed. I can’t really put a finger on why, but it sounds un-enthused. The mid-tempo worked very well to their advantage on their first record, but this one just isn’t as interesting, IMO. Granted, in the last two years or so my interests have primarily switched over to death metal that’s either chaotic and sludgy or hyper technical and 1000 BPM.

I don’t dislike it, I think I just had really high expectations for it after their debut CD.

Yeah well, after Hannes’ hyping it up and after watching him play some really creative stuff I also thought it was going to be exceptional in some way… It’s not even that great as far as the riffs go, except for a few tracks like Vortex Omnivium, and even that has some pointless sounding stuff in the middle somewhere… I get what they were trying to do, but it just doesn’t sound quite right… Wrong note progression or something. Not catchy enough in many places, and lack of catchy-ness = bad for melo death…

The most generic and borderline corny release from Amon Amarth to date imho.

Fuck the haters, I like MW.

Who wouldn’t like Municipal Waste?! I remember I went to a show in Detroit a few years back with Lamb of God and Children of Bodom as the headliners and As I Lay Dying also (I know, I know… I was hoping they’d both play their older stuff. I was wrong.) and Municipal Waste got penciled in last minute before Toxic Holocaust.

Initially I was really pissed about that because TH kicks major ass but then Municipal Waste came on after God Forbid. Holy fuck they were terrible. Anyway, I laughed my ass off because when they came on they basically made fun of the entire crowd and band lineup I think without them knowing. Their opening line was “Awww yeah Detroit. How about all these break-downs, huh!?” or something to that effect.

And then, obviously, they slayed the stage. Best band there - and me and my buddies were the only ones who knew it. I can’t remember ever feeling so anally violated (front row) or outnumbered by emo kids before, haha.
