Deadlifts or Back Squats for Speed/Vert?

Which do you prefer and why?

Wondering which one to focus on myself in my quest for speed and vert, although i’m a better deadlifter then squatter bit i’ve seen different coaches prescribe each over the other (defranco squats, cressey deads etc)

I’ve never trained personally for those two goals but my trainer had very much success with 1/2 speed squats from a high box. The rationale is that that’s the starting point of a maximal jump (nobody descends into a full squat when they want to jump as high as possible). Conventional squats and deadlifts are still staples, but I believe these are a very useful tool to add at the beginning of a workout.
