I just wanted to ask a general question. I plan on doing ladders for my dealifting for the next month or so. If you are unfamiliar with ladders dan Dan john just wrote an article about them.
I planned on doing snatch grip deadlifts. I chose my rep scheme for the ladders to be a rep scheme of 1-2-2-1 etc. with very minimal rest between reps (less than a minute). Since my grip is very weak on my very last reps I fully expect to employ wrist straps.
My question is can I rest in the bottom position with my straps still wrapped around the bar to keep my rest times low? This is really just a general question. I always stand up after Im done deadlifting until the next rep.
resting in the start position like that will eliminate the stretch reflex. this is good if you want to work the beginning of the lift but bad if you want to lift more weight.
you could leave the straps on but just raise your rear up or rest on your knees.
is it really possible to use the stretch reflex for the first rep when doing deadlifts? is that party why people drop down quickly and grab and pull instead of starting in a squat type of position? just curious
If any deadlift variation demands the use of straps its the snatch grip deadlift. The wide spacing of the hands makes for an even weaker double overhand grip and is to wide to use over-under properly. Do as many sets as you can without straps, adding them when your grip starts to fail.
If you want to take a micro break then keep your hands strapped to the bar and either kneel or raise your ass up as others have suggested. With the weight most use for snatch grip deadlifts I think the “stretch reflex” should be the least of your worries.
I think it’s ridiculous to stay strapped to the bar while your resting, even if it’s just for 60 seconds. Either use chalk and grip the effin bar or get good at strapping so you can do it quickly.
Btw, that’s not a Snatch Grip in your picture. I hope you know that.
Pardon a slight hijack. For you guys who do a lot of SGDL, do any of you really find you need to use straps, and, is a mixed grip really out of the question? I’ve never tried a wide mixed grip, but it seems like it would be doable.
