Deadlifting/Powerlifting in West Los Angeles?

Dear T-Nation,

I hope this question finds you well. I thought this would be the appropriate forum for this question because I am finding it difficult to find a deadlift-friendly gym in west LA or the west valley. Scott Mendelsohn used to be close by, but he’s pretty far from me now. Others say UCLA Wooden Center, but I am not an alum or a student. All I know is that I want to deadlift 500lbs and sometimes that makes a bit of noise, and most gyms aren’t down with it here.

There are crossfit gyms, but sadly those are full of crossfitters and I doubt they want a non-crossfitter messing with their ‘vibe’.

I have googled the shit out of this, and ironically one of the only things I could find was a post on this site from about 5 years ago.

If anyone can recommend somewhere were I can lift a little bit of weight without pissing anyone off I would be ever-so-grateful.

Crunch in Burbank and the one on Sunset. They both allow heavy lifting as long as you’re not being an ass to other people. I’ve seen guys lift four plates plus on deadlift and have no problem. I myself rep 405 for doubles all the time and have no issues with them. I’m pretty sure they’d get upset if you constantly kept dropping it from almost waist high though. You don’t have to put it down light but discretion is key.

Thanks for your response, Ninja. I’ll check them out.

No problem. Let me know how it goes.

LMAO… Google doesn’t answer every freaking thing man. Why not just pick up the phone and call around and simply ask if deadlifting is cool or not? Go ‘old school’ and get it done…
