hi everyone, does anyone know of / recommend any powerlifting gyms in los angeles?
Good question… if you find any let me know. Meanwhile, I fired off an email to someone who might know. I’ll post if I find out anything. I was told there’s a gym called Raw something or other in El Segundo. But when I checked out their website it looked like an MMA deal.
yea raw (or r-1 as its called now i think) is mma oriented.
Here’s the response I got from my source. Make of it what you will:
LA Lifting Club went dead. Scott Mendelson, the bench press
record holder, has a gym in the valley…
If you wanna learn Olympic Lifting Sean Waxman is a great coach
(www.shutupandlift.com). Used to train folks at Raw, Rico
Chiaparelli’s MMA gym in El Segundo but now is opening up something
in Santa Monica I think. He’s an ex NY Jet, has a degree in
biomechanics, but really likes to work with athletes and mostly
teaching the Olympic Lifts.
Ken Vick is a good all round coach I hear. He’s at Velocity, but the
one in Torrance.
Scot Mendleson’s gym F.I.T, which is over at 13752 Ventura in Sherman Oaks in the valley. Never been there, just drive past all the time. I have no idea if what the guy above said about him being a jerk is true.

I don’t know either. Maybe just a bad experience they had, but I’m editing it out because it’s just hearsay.
Hey, I don’t mean to hi-jack the OP’s thread, but since we’ve got some LA people in already…
Could anyone who’s recommending a gym in the area also say what it costs to go there?
THanks

I usually work out at the company gym, but I had a gym membership at Ballys in Culver City. I paid about $40 a month.
I did a google search before posting here, this is what I had found:
