i say stay with the overhand as much as possible.

If you’re planning to use hook grips for PR attempts, you may want to practice them on your normal lifts. I know it took me a while to get a feel for them, I can’t imagine using them for the first time on a PR attempt.

Figure 8 straps are far easier to use and also allows you to use a thumbless grip for PR attempts, much more comfortable.

switch to over under grip or straps for your deads, dont let grip hold you back. to build grip, you could throw in a few timed DOH BB holds once a week. if possible, use a thick bar, but a regular bar would also suffice.

Static holds will also work for better grip.

Another suggestion for improving your grip endurance is to try a grip with your thumbs under your fingers (if you have long enough fingers). Most people naturally place their thumbs over top of their fingers when gripping the bar, however those of us w/ long fingers are able to do just the opposite. I have found that my grip endurance nearly doubles when I use this grip.
