Deadlift, Steak, Beer, Sleep, Repeat

Rest day, bar for a briskwalk around the coastline tonight.

Completed a 24hr fast today, hadn’t gone that on a few years. Tomorrow I’ll be reducing the carbs (100-150g daily) and going with a more animal based diet. After a month or so, I’ll take the carbs down again to 50-100g daily.

Haha! In hindsight a man cave with a mini bar and pool table might have been a better idea.

Things seem to be going well with the fat loss, Rob. Good going. How are the poundage faring? Maintaining? Gaining? Losing? A bit of all three?

Cheers,
Ray

Hey Ray, hows it going mate?

Thanks, yeah weight is going down nicely, strength is maintaining, but after the first exercise or two i start to feel the pace, so training little and often, managing the stress, getting more sleep, drinking more water, reduced the carbs and have kept my fat intake high. Had a bit of a headache these last few days, given am not downing loads of sugar, but thats already getting easier.

Anyho, hows your training going?

P.s, did you see Shivlyakov breaking masters max deadlift? That was an epic pull.

Best
Rob

Hi Rob,
Late reply (see below). Intrigued to see how you get on with the low-carb routine. As I wrote, I’ve tried intermittent fasting but it only worked for me as it narrowed the window when I ate. In short, I lowered the calories. Low carb: I tried Dave Draper’s tuna and fish diet, which is truly sickening. I lasted 3 days before I realised that the smell of the tuna was actually in my skin. I nearly threw up from that discovery alone. Soooo, never gave low carb a chance.
Nice to see you’re back on the Hatfield Squats. Only squatting variation (okay, Hip-Belt Squats too) that worked for me. Calf Raises too: blasphemy!
As for self, training has hit a wall. I’m helping to dig a one-mile long trench for a pipe. 8 hours a day for 14 consecutive days. My back is a mess. Struggling to get out of the settee. Happened on my PR week too, which has had to be delayed. Life intrudes. C’est la vie.
Shivlyakov: yup, what a way to make a living. I thought he was going to pass out throughout the lift. Incredible. Great showman and a formidable competitor.

Slainte,
Ray

Today…

Plate loaded power squat
100kg x 5
140kg x 3
180kg x 2
220kg x 2
260kg x 2
300kg x 1
340kg x 4

Went to the gym for upper body training today and was challenged on the power squat machine…I hate squats…but I’m partial to a challenge lol, especially when there was cream buns on the line for the victor. I won the challenge by 40kg…and the buns🤤.

Finnish up with some landmine rows and plate loaded machine dips, working up to a heavy top set on each.

PM
Did some arms in my home gym, machine preachers, reverse BB curls and V bar pushdowns.

Have a great weekend everyone

Hey Ray,.

I’ve heard of that diet, but it sounds like miserable mate. Ha, I cant eat fish, especially tuna anymore, in the 90s I lived of tuna and chicken breast, completely sickened myself.

Carbs aren’t too low yet, still getting 100-150 carbs a day. Getting over the sugar hump, feeling good, less bloated, more energy and had to adjust my belt down a notch today👍
Love these wee egg, cheese, bacon and chilli muffins to snack on…bulletproof coffee too, fills me up till dinner, which is steak n veggies and a keto dessert. More doable than fish lol.

Jes, I hope ya got pay for that work mate, double time.

Speaking of Shivlyakov, I hear the previous holder is going for 340kg here in December, thinking of going to it. I’ll keep ya updated.

Going forward, i think im going to drop the deadlift for several weeks and replace it with the power squat machine and heavy rows. Then ill return to the deadlift and see wheres thats at.

I think also going forward, I’ll keep to my own lane. I’ve discovered on other forums here that if your experiences dont line up with the thinking of others your names mud. This is the only form of social media I do, pretty much because the social media is policed by these “educators” who get offended on behalf of others, create arguments where there doesnt need to be one and take up a pseudo moralistic stance to make themselves appear more virtuous.
Boy I miss the old days

Ah, those guys down there in pharma are nuts anyway. Don’t let it discourage you from the rest of the forum. There is some quality entertainment to be had here.
