Deadlift in a PL Meet

I feel like I should know this already…but I don’t.

Are sumo deadlifts allowed in competition, or only conventional?

Does it depend on the federation?

I ask because I currently have some difficulty maintaining a neutral lumbar spine in the start position of the conventional dead (flexibility issues which are improving).

I obviously am planning on being able to conventional dead properly, but I am curious about the sumo thing.

By the way, I got to see the bench press portion of the Arnold PL competition a couple of weeks ago…absolutely f-ing awesome. And the bench press is the least favorite event of mine.

Thanks for the help,
Tucker

Lol, sorry I shouldn’t laugh. Sumo pulls are allowed in ever single federation I have ever heard of. Even though I loathe sumo deadlifts with a passion. I think we should vote out sumo pullers!

As far as I know, every powerlifting federation is ok with sumo.
In many strongam meets it seems that sumo is not allowed for deadlift events such as deadlift for reps.

Thanks for the help…I guess we all have a few stupid questions in the bank…or maybe I have most of them.

I have seen where most strongman events do not allow sumos, which is mostly where the question came from.

Thanks again,
Tucker
