Deadlift Grip Question

I’m currently doing Charles Poliquin’s Supper-Accumulation Program.(over train 2 weeks 1 week off) anyways, Every otherday Im supposed to do Sumo deadlifts from a platform which isnt a problem except my grip cant hold for all TEN sets of them, and I can easily do more weight with under over grip. I dont have any straps or chalk and I lift in my garage. Would I be better off doing all over under grip deadlifts with more weight or sumo grip till it gives then switch for remaining sets? Thanks for any input.

I think you answered your own question.

I would alternate the over/under grip each set. By sumo grip, do you mean double over-hand? I don’t recall seeing that many heavy deadlifters using a double over-handed grip. I think about everyone uses over-under.

Its double overhand and wide… heres link, It would be my favorite lift If i could grip some higher weights.

Everyone has their opinion, but there is really no single particular grip for deadlifts. Sumo deadlifts are about the stance, not the grip so much. Personally, I do regular old romanian deadlifts with a mix grip (one overhand/one underhand) where I alternate hand positions every set.

Your link shows him doing platform snatch-grip deadlifts, not sumo deadlifts. Sumo’s are a very wide stance with your hands between your legs. Like I said above, you can go double overhand, mixed grip, double underhand, straps, no straps, whatever works best for you.

If you want to do his platform snatch-grip deads, then you will probably have to settle for dropping the weight or using straps. The whole point of the super wide grip is to work your grip strength and arms much more than a regular grip.

Yeah, alternate switched grips each set. Also, a set of straps will only set you back like… what, $5?

Thanks for the help, and when I get 5 bucks ill go get some straps but after that Biotest sale…my funds = 0
Think im just gona do 1/2 snatch deads from platform and RDL with mixed grip for the other 1/2. With 10 work sets im going to be dead no matter what I do but this way hopfully ill improve on both lifts. Thanks again.

Chalk is cheap and once your deads get heavy enough it’s usually necessary. I can’t pull more than 350 without chalk. I get sweaty from the effort and my grip slips. If you are developing grip strength then go with chalk first and avoid the straps until your grip start failing again.

Over/Under grip works best for heavy weight.

chalk and get a pair of Iron mind gripers and work on grip strength. I’m about to trade up from the #1 to #1.5 or 2. Buy the #1’s, they are only 20 bucks and a great investment.
