Today after warming up I did a heavy set of five on DL, and the set went without a hitch. I rested for 5-10 minutes or so and did a second set of five with about 90% of the top set weight; during that set I had no pain at all during the lift or returning the weight to the floor, but when I released the bar and stood up after each rep I had a SEARING pain just above my left glute. Has this ever happened to anyone else on here before? What the hell is it?
Probably a minor strain. Ice massage it for a couple days and go from there. If it gets any worse, see a doc!!!
Sounds like it’s probably your gluteus medius. That’s where my pain is when I do pulls and the weight gets me on my toes. But, that’s just a guess.
Thanks, I doubt it’s too serious; I was just a little curious as to why it would only hurt when I was standing up WITHOUT weight as opposed to WITH it, but I suppose my mechanics might be different.
I noticed I was off of my heels a bit today, so maybe you’re onto something.
Now, I’m not a physical therapist, so take this with a grain of salt. If it is you medius, you will have “difficulty” standing erect for the first few seconds after long periods of sitting or after placing strain on your lower back. Best cure is to get a softball, place it in the upper glute region, and rock back and forth on it until the pain subsides. I use a tennis ball, but I have to elevate my feet to hit the area effectively.
if it doesn’t go away, see someone or it’ll only get worse.
but remember:
this is a internet forum.
