I have a question regarding the EMS article. DB mentioned that pad placement is rather vital to the success of the EMS treatment. My question is, does anyone know of a text or diagram that could help to illustrate proper pad placement and or location?
You should get a little booklet with any EMS machine that shows pad placement diagrams.
Getting them optimal is simply a case of playing around with the placement during application. During my TENS warmups I move the pads around until I get the biggest possible contraction then I stick with that for the STIM work. After a few treatments you’ll really get a feel for where things should be. Don’t be afraid to get to close to the edge of a muscle (where it attaches to the bone etc.) as this is generally where you get the best contraction from - particularly on quads.
Ant,
How long have you been using the EMS protocol, and how have your results been? What type of electrodes do you use the manual ones or the self adhesive ones? I am rather enamored with DB’s principles, I had fantastic results using them, and so do my athletes. I need to keep learning to keep them on top of their competition.
Thanks
I’ve done 3 EMS sessions so far, unfortunately though I’ve not had many companion gym sessions since I’m in-season at the moment.
Progression on the EMS seems to be going the right way and after the full 6 sessions, some force absorption work and some power absorption work I’ll be able to give a full assessment. I should have a better idea around the end of the year.
I will say though that the EMS has certainly maintained my performance even though I can’t get into the gym much and I think it will provide an excellent base to gain some rapid results from when I have more time in the gym soon.
