I was thinking more of just pretending your chicken was a pineapple but hey beer can chicken works!
Well, damn it. At some point I’ll have to try it.
I totally get what you’re saying, though; being locked into a program lately, vs a template, is almost a stressor… and I typically use the gym for stress relief. I have found myself bouncing around doing whatever, fully knowing that’s not how one gets results, but I just hate doing exactly what I’m “told”. You don’t know me, iPhone PDF!
You’ll be blown away by the ebook. It’s so loaded with information. Easily the best value you’ll get out of $20! I definitely get you man- I need freedom but not TOO much. And I think that’s why Dante made pretty strict parameters around DC.
I already bought it and read it. I just remember feeling like it was going to take way too much thinking in the gym with the zigging and zagging. I’m finding I hate a lot of set up!
It’s really not too bad when you get used to it but it means you’ll likely need to go back and forth between multiple pieces of equipment (not supersetted, there is a rest period but at higher volume tiers, you’ll do your compound movement, rest, isolation, Back to Compound). Volume Tier 1 features just standard working up to a top set and then moving to the next exercise which is a bit more traditional, which it sounds like might jive better with you.
That might be simpler than I was giving it credit for. I’ll look into it, especially if it was a favorite for both you and CT. Every time I start to get away from it I even a little, I just go back to bodybuilding style training as my “safe space”
Yeah I’m with you on that. Bodybuilding style training is what makes me feel like I’m on the right path. Muscle building is my most important training goal so when I try other stuff I’m really just being a pretender
Really felt back on track today. Slept well last night (I may have woken up too early yesterday simply from the excitement of beginning to re-read the Fortitude Training ebook the night before… Kid on Christmas morning type situation) and I really just felt a whole lot better. Beautiful day outside, there was a spring in my step! Had a footlong Subway steak and cheese sandwich on flatbread with peppers, onions, spinach and lettuce and that was just so delicious.
Got after it today, great workout, great Pump and most importantly: made some huge progressions on my lifts. Only snag was that the pad on the leg extension is kind of thin so the metal bar really dug into my shin, so just had to try to block that out and overcome. Great workout! Only took about 40 minutes!
Few days behind on updating the log. Just been plugging away. My plan is to start Fortitude again on Wednesday. I’ve been working with Dr. Scott on arranging things around my schedule. Still re-reading the ebook and getting everything planned out in terms of my exercise rotation and preparing a solid pool of muscle round exercises. Doing this in the garage is going to be a cool and unique experience but so was doing Mountain Dog training!
In the meantime, I’ve just been training my ass off. Today’s session flew by in just about 27 minutes! I’ve pulled back on volume a little bit for the past couple sessions for a few body parts that have been recovering a bit more slowly.
First day back to lifting after the stomach flu (norovirus). Slept like a beast last night and feel so much better today. Although still some stomach trouble so the eating has been light.
Began Fortitude Training Volume Tier 1 today. Lower Load/Upper Pump. Felt a little weak on squats, but not as weak as I honestly expected. I forgot just how BRUTALLY hard FT can be with these full body sessions to failure! I definitely feel as though I can get more out of Volume Tier 1 now than I could 3 years ago. Super excited to see where this training Blast takes me!!
This will be cool to watch!
Was able to navigate around the broken bench and do barbell floor Press today. Just a hair awkward since I haven’t done them in a while, but felt pretty good once I got the hang of it. This is apparently how Phil Hernon preferred to Bench anyway.
This session flew by in just under 40 minutes with stretches included. I’ll think I’ll be able to bump up to Volume Tier II at least for loading/pump days next week. I tolerated all of the work here super well and I’m feeling 100% back to full strength after dealing with the stomach flu early in the week. I respond to this style of training like a sponge soaking in the gains! Both training days have had me leaving the gym feeling ecstatic! Potentially working at a new gym soon and that will really open up the playbook (especially for muscle rounds!)
You press too much ??
I think the years of heavy leg curling and heavy leg extensions are probably the primary culprit that wore it down
Lower focused muscle rounds today. Very short workout, got it done in 33 minutes but man I took myself to hell and back in that time! The barbell hacks for muscle rounds absolutely brutalized me. Did a sissy squat stretch with a 25 lb plate and that felt devilishly diabolical.
Finishing with Reverse 21s on curls always feels right for any occasion. I love how well I’m recovering between sessions right now at Tier 1. Contemplating whether I stick with this Tier for at least another week or really try to push and jump up a tier next week.
Feel like I’m eating so much more right now. Appetite has been through the roof and yet I still feel look like I’m getting leaner in the mirror. Great feeling!
sounds a lot like unlocking a cheat code
It sure feels that way! Just means I need to keep eating more!
Hell of an upper body Muscle Rounds day! Tried some new exercises for the very first time today, including incline scoop flyes and Overhead Flyes. I just love muscle rounds man… they’re so fun to do and they present such a muscular and cardiovascular challenge. You really just have to lock in, take your deep breaths and give each rep all you’ve got. Even during your rest periods, you’re pretty much just as locked in as you are during your set.
Plan is to rest tomorrow and the lift Wednesday and potentially Thursday. I think I’ll do another week at Volume Tier 1 and then push to Tier 2 the following week-depending on recovery and just generally how I’m feeling.
Also-triceps were feeling super pumped even an hour post lift!
Oh wow those tris! You aiming for the stage at any point in the future?
Thank you! I’m definitely open to it, but I really want to keep adding mass right now. I want to be a beast before I ever think about the stage
