Today’s leg session was a nice quick one before an absolutely titanic push day tomorrow. One legged leg press was a nice change of pace. I could work each leg really hard and it didn’t take nearly as long to load up and then rack all those plates, which is generally my least favorite part about the exercise. I’ve peaked ahead a bit and it looks like this final week is going to be putting me through the wringer. I look forward to it!
This was a really fun push session. I really thrive on sessions like this with a ton of work and PRs sprinkled in, such as on Dumbbell incline and barbell incline and even over and back press! Those first couple of exercises made me a little anxious, hitting numbers I haven’t before on those exercises, especially with no music for Dumbbell inclines, but I think that adrenaline spike helped me hit my numbers. Relieved to have survived it all and reaped the amazing pump reward! Time to drink some hydrolyzed whey and eat some Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
125 dumbbells for Db inc press is serious weight. Nice job Dave.
Thank you Simo! I appreciate you checking in! The first rep and the last rep are undoubtedly the hardest with dumbbell incline! That first rep feels like a 1RM attempt for some reason lol
Really fun Pull day today. Another nice blend of Training heavy and getting a great pump. Really the hallmark of Mountain Dog Training along with very high intensity! After spending the year of 2023 doing exclusively Mountain Dog training, it’s hard to imagine not using this style of exercise sequencing ever again. It just makes so much sense and seems to be working so well for me.
After pulling an all nighter last night helping you sort through my recently departed grandpa’s belongings And then taking them to Goodwill, then got a 4-5 hour nap and started my day. I don’t know up from down right now but still got in to the gym to bust out some legs. Mixed things up a bit, put a plate under my heels during squats. Made things a bit harder but made my form a bit more consistent and took any pressure off of my lower back. Performance was down, probably also due to sleep deprivation but I liked the feel and allowed me to get my squats more Platz-like. Overall this workout was a win, pushed hard, got a crazy pump.
Sorry for your loss, brother.
Same - I’m sorry for your loss
That’s awesome to hear! I’m the same (really over the last decade). I’ll dip my toe into other stuff, but I always come back. Really the only way I screw it up is when I bite off more than I can chew by adding too much or dieting too hard or doing one of the 6-day programs when I’m traveling a lot.
Thank you and @sveng so much for your thoughts. He was one terrific grandpa!
Yes I could definitely see that. Thankfully, I’ve been in one spot for all of 28 Days later with the exception of the day I had that road trip to Dallas for my immigration physical. I’ve had a few days of being more run down than others but mostly, my recovery has been on point with food and sleep. I’ve been using that exercise sequencing with my more advanced clients and they all seem to really be responding well to it!
Well, with this, I have come to the end of 28 Days Later. Very brutally tough program from beginning to end. You get a few shorter sessions to offer some level of reprieve, but you need to come correct with your recovery to keep up with the intensity, volume and frequency of this program. If you’re in one spot for a month, this is absolutely a killer program that can spark some new growth for you. Sometimes you have to get extreme!!
I haven’t really put any thought into what I’m doing best after this. My sole focus has been on getting through this program and giving it everything I have in addition to getting adequate recovery from my food, sleep and hydration. I’ll be thinking about what’s next during these upcoming rest days. Happy to have survived and thrived!
Epic, well done on getting that done, how’s the current physique? Interesting to see what’s next, how’d you follow this? Bridging program I’d assume, give you a time with less strenuous training!
Thanks man! It was definitely a tough ride! I’m thinking something lower volume and high intensity. I have some ideas I’m kicking around, DC Training, High Evolutionary or Project Colossus by John Meadows, Fortitude Training, and finally, Mountain of DoggCrapp which is a hybrid of DC and Mountain Dog Training created by Ben Pollack.
I’m planning on resting through the weekend and maybe doing some sort of muscle round workout on Friday… although I may just rest haha!
As for the physique, I’m super satisfied with where I’m at! Feel like I’ve recomped a bit over the course of this program. My weight before the program was 204 and was 206.2, so not a crazy change weight-wise but my muscles feel very full and strong right now!
Pardon the Spider-Man 2 pajama pants!
I would be too!
That is fantastic progress for someone with your development in the space of month, when you’re fuller/stronger and still look lean, looks like solid gains!
Ooo that sounds really interesting! I’ll be following along no matter what you chose but that gets my vote.
No need to excuse that at all - one of my jobs is on call work and I often leave the house at 2/3/4am wearing an array of similar PJs usually I get home before sunrise, but occasionally I have to strip off outer kit on site or get home late or go McDonald’s on the way home and I’ll happily strut around looking like a nut job in my PJs!
I really appreciate that man, it was a tough 28 Days but it was absolutely a rewarding experience. I’m also on board with being super intrigued by MountainCrapp haha! I’m so torn right now, I just need to make a decision, get excited and commit 100%! Also I’ve always loved Training in pajama pants lol
Just got a little muscle round session in tonight. Just something to hold me over until I start something new on Monday. Brought the intensity as always and incorporated stretches as well. Muscle Rounds are my go-to when I just need something to hold me over or I’m in between programs. Thank you Scott Stevenson!
Nice work!
Looking beastly mate, just need to get out in the sun.
Yeah no doubt haha maybe softball will help me get some level of tan, but I need the sun to be out more. I’m looking like a Brit right now!
Not like this Brit. Living in Australia definitely helps with your tan. LOL
I’m envious! It’s basically summer for you right now isn’t it?
