Celebrated my birthday on Monday and have had some really good sessions right around that time! 30 is off to a fantastic start! My usual big volume, big pump training. Great mind muscle connection as always! Steelers won the AFC North in an absolutely fantastic game on Sunday! I’m honestly still flying from that!
Happy belated Birthday!!!
Gonna butt heads a little here!!! I’m from Buffalo!!! ![]()
Happy birthday, Dave, you joyous beast, you!
Happy birthday! And I am a Pittsburgh girl, so I have your back with @s.gentz if you need it.

What?
Obviously stuff like lunges and Meadiws rows are unilateral. But how many/what other lifts are you doing 1 arm at a time? Any unilateral pressing?
Sometimes I work in reciprocating reps On Dumbbell Overhead and bench Presses as well as machine presses. When I’m at the Y, Back home, I do the same with the Technogym Pulldown and Chest Press machines since they allow me to do one side at a time. Sometimes it’s nice when I feel close to failure to switch to those, because I can squeeze more reps out.
This new forum layout makes me want to throw up, so I’ll just reply with this standalone post. @s.gentz @EmilyQ @BethB thank you all so much for the birthday wishes! And thank you Beth, I may need back up in here if we end up facing the Bills in a later round! Excited to see how this game with Houston goes Monday night! We haven’t lost a Monday night game at home since before I was born! Before Coach Cowher even!
My husband is a Bears fan (don’t judge him too harshly, he’s from Illinois and wasn’t raised any better) so every four years it gets a bit dicey living in this house. Lol
He’s certainly fortunate that the owner of the Bears didn’t play in our game against them this year!
I’ve been to 2 steeler games. One was in the old three rivers stadium. I was in college, so you probably weren’t alive yet (ugh I’m old). The other was in 2017 in Chicago. I went with 3 Bears fans and had to ride home with them in a car for 3 1/2 hours after they won in OT. It was a sad day. A sad sad day.
I remember watching that game and being dumbstruck that we lost to them. We were 13-3 that year, which was also the same year as the Jesse James Catch against the Pats, The year we lost Shazier and the Blowout divisional loss to the Jags. That was probably our most loaded roster since our last SB appearance but it was such a cursed year for us. Probably has something to do with those spells Gisele would use on Brady. Cursed our season!
Haha! The Superbowl is played (or used to be) on my birthday quite often. When I first moved out here the Steelers were killing it and played on my birthday. It was kind of a cool present. My mom had been on the local news (in Pittsburgh ) the night before talking about how her daughter in Illinois was celebrating her birthday watching the Steelers play in the Superbowl. ![]()
That’s honestly super cool! I have witnessed a lot of wild card round losses on or around my birthday unfortunately. I wanted to go to the Detroit game this year but by the time I decided to pull the trigger, we were a few weeks beforehand and the prices were just way too high. What a shame, that game was awesome!
A couple more sessions to report on! These were two terrific ones! Starting with quads and chest, The squats felt amazing, The weight was flying and my quads were getting ridiculously pumped. I could probably go a little heavier on Leg Press. That’s a good note for next time. Swapped to dumbbells for my presses for this one, just to mix it up. Felt great! I did a lying Cable fly on a bench as I’d seen done in a Jay Cutler/John Meadows video. I really liked it! May try to keep it in the rotation! The dips were also brutally tough to do by the End.
I actually woke up with kind of sore lats, particularly my right one. I think it’s from how much scapular depression I was creating on decline Cable Press and dips. Didn’t stop me from having a Great back day today, The slight soreness acted almost like a Mind muscle connection booster, because I was able to really “feel” every rep a little better from rep 1 of the session. The Hamstring work felt the best it has in a minute. Last session was a little lacking, so I changed up from Machine lying leg curls to the dumbbell variation on the bench and went back to standard Dumbbell RDLs as I was getting just a little too much glute on the landmine kickstand version.
Going to hit some shoulders and arms tomorrow before I hit the road to Texas to visit my dad for the weekend.
I forgot to get pictures of my notepad so I’ll upload those tomorrow. In the meantime, I did grab this photo after the back day!
Dave, you have exquisite taste in regards to lounge pants.
Awesome sessions as usual Dave! Back & Bi’s looking jacked!!
Do you usually train 3 consecutive days then 1 day off followed by another 3 consecutive days?
After my first 1.5 weeks of doing similar training my recovery has been lagging a bit and had pretty bad doms but I think I just need my body to adjust to the higher volumes. Was just curious about your recovery days.
Looking proper hench mate. Quality
