Dave Tate on Integrity

Great speech

People dont have to act the way their parents brought them up. What if their parents were wrong and the kid knew it. He would be a retarded fool to try and stick by those values.

He says the people you respected, not your parents. They don’t have to be the same.

I like what he’s trying to say, but I think he takes it a little to far when he sais “IF you hate, hate everybody” …

…Fucking hate everybody, who will be here when it’s all done? The man in the mirror.
So become somebody you wouldn’t mind being lock with.

Getting a point might be a little tough for you.

He is saying IF your value is to hate, then hate everybody. He is using that example to illustrate his point. Did you listen to anything he says? IF you go against your values then you’re going to create stress and clog up the works so to speak and that will lead to more problems. I hope I spelled it out well enough for those of you who don’t get it.

Look at the values in the people around you that you respect and those are your core values.

That’s simple yet brilliant.

Role Modele: Jim McLaren, Lance Armstrong, Rick Hyot…and so on.

And you?

I think he means people that you know. What qualities in them do you respect.

Eh… I sort of disagree. I know what you’re saying, but I still thing you can genuinely form your values by what you like about other people, regardless of how well you know them.

For me—
Jordan - dedication to improvement/greatness
Valerie Waugaman - her energy and her motto “aspire to inspire”
Rod Brind’amour - Leadership and hard work
Henrik Zetterberg - creativity and individuality
Dan John - humility, simplicity, and living happiness/success (which to him are essentially the same!)

A lot of these traits of course overlap between people in this list and are shown by many other people. These are people who I relate to, and who I “look” to when things may be tough. Some people wonder WWJD, I usually ask myself what would Rod do, or what would Val do?
