Quick question for you folks…
why is it, that whenever I do shoulder presses, or side lateral raises, my neck really starts to hurt? And hurts for about a week!
I’ve already lowered my side lateral raise DB weights to…ahem…12lbs…
Does this mean I need to use the pink-rubber girly 5lbs now?
any thoughts on the pain?
thanks!
This is a band aid until you get to a doctor and have it checked out.
Your traps and levator scapulae might be tight, and you’re probably using them to shrug up the weight, along with the delts. Try stretching them out.
Put one hand behind your back, and use your other hand to pull your head to that side. Repeat on the other side.
Look to the left and hold with a stretch for 30 sec, same for looking to the right and also looking up. Tuck you chin into your chest and pull gently on the back of you head, hold for 30 seconds. Do shrugs with no weight to warm up the shoulder girdle and then with maybe 20 pounds or so. Just really get the blood pumping in there. If that doesn’t work then see a doctor?
Thanks guys! It seems like I wasn’t warming up my neck properly before doing the weights.
I’d do a cardio warmup, burpees etc…but nothing for the neck.
thanks for the stretching advice! I’ll do it every day…
