I was under the impression some of the cheap brands don’t filter out toxins like dioxin, PCB’s, or Mercury well. Have any of you guys taking large doses of discount brands had problems?
I just started taking fish oil around 3 weeks ago, and I’m at 6 a day…just testing it right now…I’ll start 10 a day soon. I too take the GNC brand.
I have a slightly different question about fish oils. Say I mega-dose with two tablespoons a day (about 30 grams of fish oil/30 grams of fat total), would I include that as part of my caloric intake for fats or does it not count?
GNC is overpriced in my book Theragran-M makes 1200mg capsules 200ct for like 11USD. I take about 8 capsules a day.
Straight from Waterbury:
"My MMA clients take 6 Flameout capsules per day, along with 2 tablespoons of Carlson’s fish oil. Don’t take all of this at once. I prefer a plan like this:
Meal 1: 3 Flameout
Meal 2: 1 tablespoon Carlson’s
Meal 4: 3 Flameout
Bedtime meal: 1 tablespoon Carlson’s "
Thats 36g by my calculations…

yeah it def. should be counted…
I think the same way sometimes,…but let’s be real…you have to count it…no big…

Hey nice going everyone, we finally started getting numbers, mg’s, vs how many caps which doesn’t say anything, as there are so many difft. ratios/mg, per company’s pill…
Why don't we concentrate on how many mg/gms of actual OMEGA 3??? That's where all the magic is coming from right guys?
So, lets start over on that note eh?
yay team....
lol..great thread everyone...

You mean EPA:DHA?

With that many pills, you’d be burping fish all day. yuck
If you keep them cold enough you don’t get the burps.
Does it matter all that much if I take them at breakfast and dinner only? I can’t bring that kind of stuff to school.

Why not? i agree taking pills at school may not look good, but whose to know? Is your lunch searched daily?
Theres a post on here somewhere theres no need to take supplemental fats with breakfast because your body doesnt need them for fuel first thing in the morning, but if thats all you can do thats all you can do…
I get my fish oil from Vitamin Shoppe. ( oz bottle is 7 bucks. I take 5-6 teaspoons a day minimum ususally more. Each teaspoon has about 1250 omega 3s (epa/dha)
I think Berardi recommended 10 grams of omega 3 a day right? and poliquin like 30? somebody correct that if I’m wrong…
Most of the medical studies I encountered used 1-3g of EPA/DHA (mix or pure). There were several studies using 8-9g for bi-polar and the benefit of the higher dose was unclear; some of the studies showed that 8g performed worse than 2g.
Personally, I stay in 1-3g range (6 capsules and the amount depends on potency). More is not always better and I prefer to be a little conservative. 3g of EPA/DHA is an equivalent of 10oz of wild salmon, so it can’t be “too much”. The highest medical recommendation I remember is 4g.

No fish burps? You guys are fucking lucky. The worst time to get them is when you’re in the middle of a heavy set. I almost threw up one time halfway through a rep on decline bench. lol
Get ones that are eccentric coated. They cost more but will not cause this problem. I’ve never had the issue severely but my wife is like you. She has trouble with any brand, regardless of the quality if they aren’t coated. She even had issues with Flameout, which was surprising to me.

25 a day? 10 grams a day?
How can you guys afford this? And would taking too many ever hurt you?
Fish oil is the cheapest thing you can supplement with.
I personally take in at least 30-40g a day. That gives me about 9-12g of DHA/EPA. As Phill somewhat alluded to, you need more as you get older.

Thats not 25 Flameout p/day, i pay about $50US /litre for my liquid fish oil.
i forgot to write i read somewhere taking >20g can cause blood thinning ie. an inability to clot…

Of course the calories count. If you put it in your mouth and it goes to your digestive system, it counts.
Kind of a random question, but say I buy some Biotest fish oil. I would end up doing what a lot of people are doing and mix it with the cheaper brands.
When is the best time to hit your body with the higher dose of DHA/EPA that would come with one serving of Flame out as opposed to the standard times when I would have teh regular dosages found with most other fish oils?
I take about 30-50 gms fish per day. They are called Nutra-sea. the epa and dha are high…lemon flavor and distilled. The more the merrier with fish oil.
Also use udo oil to the the omega 6 and 9 also…

There was a post on here somewhere saying there is no need to have extra fats at breakfast as the body does not need them for fuel.
Im not 100% of your question, but id split the delivery, maybe something like 1/2 daily serve of Flameout meals 3 & 5, 1/2 daily serve of other fish oil with meals 2 & 4…
