I’m doing Chad Waterbury’s Lift Fast Get Big Program, and I read through the thread on this routine and couldn’t find a direct answer to my quesiton.
I stopped by his Lockeroom too but he doesn’t look like he responds to well on that.
So my question is (to anyone that knows) should the load be lightened in order to perform the right tempo?
The tempo is 20X for the first 2 weeks.
It doesnt seem I’m lifting the load fast fast speed wise, but I’m lifting it as fast as possible. So bascially is it the speed or the notion that needs to be carried out?
thanks
I’m actually going to start this program on Monday and give it 4 weeks. I think he briefly answered that somewhere in the program thread, but that could just be me reading your question you posted on his lockerroom.
I believe CW said you should lighten the load because obviously you won’t be able to get the same amount of reps with the same weight if you are pausing at the bottom for 4 seconds.
I haven’t figured out how I am going to do this yet. Obviously some exercises like curls will be easier than say squat and bench press where you are going to get crushed if you don’t move the bar.
I’m looking to increase weights so my ego says don’t lift less weight. I think I might not try to lighten the load on some exercises but might have to on others. How has the program been treating you so far?
I completed that program not long ago. I reduced the weight to achieve the fast lift at the start and was able to increase the weight and still lift fast as I progressed through it.
I figured it was more to do with the explosive action rather than the bigger resistance for this one to give results.
I enjoyed the program but a few niggling injuries held me back from completing it effectively.

Its a good program im on the 5th day, and am enjoying it very much.
I’ve done quite a few of CW’s Workouts in the past but I havent been this sore before. I’ve never worked with specific tempo in weight training so I guess my body has got to get used to the change.
I just finished the LFGB workout and it was great…i could be wrong, but i thought the whole Lift Fast was the shorter periods of rest, i dont know if i was directed towards the explosiveness of it…
your supposed to be going pretty heavy with the weights, i know thats what i did and my gains were greater than what i expected! its 80% or more of your max for most lifts…so if your DL max is 315, you should be getting up to atleast 250+ or more…good luck with it bro and stick to its, its a great workout plan, i loved it!
