I am 28 years old. I am 197 pounds. I am 5 foot 10. I’m looking to cut around 10-15 pounds. I have been lifting hard for about 5 years. I have never really been into controlling my diet, as I have always been able to maintain a healthy look. Just recently I have decided to take the whole thing seriously. I think if I can cut the weight that I may compete.
Like I said, as an idiot to the diet part of bodybuilding, I am curious on a cut phase how many carbs I should be consuming. I have read 1g per 2 pounds of body weight. I’ve read between 30-60g. I’m just wondering what works well with you guys.
Also, cycling the number of carbs, how does this work. I’ve read 3 days low, 2 medium, one high doses of carbs. Can someone give me the exact numbers I should be looking to hit. Again I’m 197 and looking to cut weight. Thanks in advance guys!!
I would go with Carb cycling personally. That way for the first part of you Diet you can maintain your muscle mass and maybe even gain a little. Basically first thing you need to do is figure out how many calories you need and what not. You want to try to loose around 1 lb/week. To ensure you don’t loose muscle.
Make sure your High Days are on your Heavy Training days. On days you are not in the gym at all make these your low days. And when you start incorporating your Cardio do low intensity (I would do this on low days personally to maximize fat loss, but be sure and use BCAA’s or at least get a scoop of pure whey in there before your session.)
As your Diet progresses then you will start cutting back on your high days, then your medium until you acheive your goals. Don’t get me wrong here Carb cycling is not the only way to get lean, but I just think it preserves muscle very well. I mean Keto Diet’s Like Dave Palumbo’s work well but its brutal to stick with I find, Also Lyle Macdonald warp speed fatloss will produce sick results but I find such low calories hard on me. Hope this helps.
Excellent information. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks man
No Problem Good Luck and let us know how it goes!
Dave,
One more question. Here is my training log:
M–Chest
Tu–Bi and tri
Wed–Cardio
Thurs–Shoulders
Fri–Back
Sat–Legs
Sun–Cardio
Which days should be my heavy/high carb day or days? How many should I have? Wed. and Sunday are great for Low days but now many low days should I have? Thanks again bro
High days for Legs, and probably back, they’re the largest ‘muscle group’.
Nate I would agree with MattyG35, The best days for High Carbs are your Legs and Back!
