Curcumin 500

How many caps would you say would equal the pain-killing effects of 200 mg of Ibuprofen?

Or would this just be an individual thing?

Hahah yea I did this in the car a week ago. Although I didn’t think the aftertaste was that bad, just like a bit of pepper on your tongue for a second.

some folks are claiming curcumin has cancer-cell killing potential…

There is actually a lot of evidence out there that polyphenolic compounds, including curcumin, exhibit tumor inhibiting effects. This is believed to be due to the activiation of the P53 gene and teh sort of self regulation checks step in teh cell cycle, where a cell determines if it’s DNA is intact. If it is not apoptosis is activted and the cell gets nuked.

Most tumours contain inactive p53 genes, no self check of damaged DNA , no cell nuking leads to cancerous cell growths. Do a quick pup med or wiki polyphenols good stuff. Sorry in a rush so no citations. Gingerols and capsaicin off the top of my head are two compounds I be interested in as well w ginger supposedly increasing T levels.

Does anyone know if you already eat curcumin on a daily basis (turmeric), should you still supplement with this product? Thank you.

^ I still do, IIRC the amount of Curcumin in tumeric is small so it won’t hurt taking both.

has anyone tried takin curcumin like a conventional acute painkiller? You know “my head hurts, i’m gonna pop two curcumin and wait an hour”?

How did it work?

I have tried this on several occasions. A couple of caveats, though: I already take 1 g of curcumin/day (1 x 500 g cap morning, another in evening). Further, I don’t suffer from headaches nearly as much as I used to, likely due to much improved nutrition, sleep, stress levels and general health.

That said, there have been a couple days where I came home from work with a slight headache and I’d take 2 caps, then forget about it. About an hour later when I remind myself of it, the headache seems to be relieved.

Another comment: I’ve taken up to 3 and 4 caps to combat muscle aches and pains. I’m not talking about DOMS or anything like that, but legitimate muscle pain that lingers. I know the curcumin was purported to help with this, but sadly I can’t say that it helped me.

I really only take the Curcumin for its long term effects on general health, mainly COX-2 inhibition, or for its anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin, coupled with Superfood and Flameout make a solid anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory regiment to supplement my real regiment of whole, natural foods.

Vitamin D, Curcumin May Help Clear Amyloid Plaques Found In Alzheimer’s Disease

ScienceDaily (July 16, 2009) UCLA scientists and colleagues from UC Riverside and the Human BioMolecular Research Institute have found that a form of vitamin D, together with a chemical found in turmeric spice called curcumin, may help stimulate the immune system to clear the brain of amyloid beta, which forms the plaques considered the hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease.

I’m looking at taking Rhodiola, and I’m curious as to any interaction between that and the piperine in curcumin.

I found this: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_hb3363/is_1-2_15/ai_n29416473/

(page 6 seemed to be what I was looking for)

Can anyone help decipher this?

Thx![/quote]

Thanks for the info m00se. I saw that Dr. Tim already responded but I’d like to add that the info says that bioperine in a dose of ~.85 grams (for a 190 lb person) can alter the absorption of different aspects of the RR. Bioperine is in many supps but I doubt your daily level will approach that level because most contain 5mg which is 3-5 mg which is only about 4% of the amount they are talking about. Also if you stager the dose by at least 4 hours you should be fine, i.e. take curcumin with breakfast (08:00) and RR with lunch (12:00) because 4 hours is the half life of bioperine. I hope this helps.

BTW I just ordered some Curcumin 500, and while I’ve taken curcumin before I’m excited to see how this effects me (probably the same), but I’ll report my results/thoughts here none-the-less.

Best, BT

For joint inflammation, is it better to take one capsule every few hours up to like 8 caps a day or is it better to do 4 caps at a time but only twice a day. Wonder if this makes a difference. Have a little shoulder pain that just won’t go away.

I am also interested in this. Any updates?

^It has the same MOA (mechanism of action) as candy. Eat it and you will feel better.

Okay seriously I just started taking it so I don’t know any specific dosing protocols. I’ll let you know if I experimentally come up with anything. I think Dave Tate takes big doses, so you might try searching for something on that… Otherwise I’ll check back here for some more info.

I noticed that it’s giving a burning sensation in my throat and stomach. Anybody else experience this?

I’ve only noticed this when I swallow the capsules without drinking anything afterward.

If you’re not already doing so, follow each dose with at least 8 ounces of fluid.

I haven’t noticed this. I take 1 cap after lunch and 1 after dinner.

Hey thanks for the responses guys. I’m pretty sure I figured out that it likely has to do with how either the bioperine or curcurmin or both affect an ulcer condition I have. I think I’ll stop taking it for a few months, while I treat the condition. I’m going to give DGL a shot.

Mod Brian, I have a couple of questions regarding this product. Are the curcumin 500 capsules enteric coated? If not, is the bioperine enough to ensure a significant volume of curcumin reaches the bloodstream? Thanks.

I just had to say, this product is among my favorites, having totally replaced all pain killers, even opiate based, and it’s just an all-in-all great supplement.

I used it after I dislocated my shoulder. Oddly enough (and I know this sounds incredibly stupid) it helped with the pain more than the percocet that I was prescribed. That being said, pain killers have never really been all that effective for me. It’s happened with anesthesia and prescribed stuff. The doc says my liver processes it too fast or something; whether or not that’s true curcumin seems to help with pain for me.
