has anyone tried takin curcumin like a conventional acute painkiller? You know “my head hurts, i’m gonna pop two curcumin and wait an hour”?
How did it work?
I used it after I dislocated my shoulder. Oddly enough (and I know this sounds incredibly stupid) it helped with the pain more than the percocet that I was prescribed. That being said, pain killers have never really been all that effective for me. It’s happened with anesthesia and prescribed stuff. The doc says my liver processes it too fast or something; whether or not that’s true curcumin seems to help with pain for me.
Any difference between Biotest Curcumin 500 and other brands? I am looking to use is for inflammation.
I have no problem with price but, I am looking to order more than one item on amazon so would like to get everything at once.
I don’t want to offend you and I know it’s done all the time, but personally I always thought it was bad form to talk about other brands of a product that T Nation sells. Especially when their products are first rate.
How long does it take (at the label recommended dose) for the beneficial effects - of either pain relief or health benefits - to decline? In other words, what is the body’s “saturation point” where one would benefit from a short term break from taking the product?
There has to be one, as there is with pretty much everything.
I am guessing 8 weeks for pain relief and maybe 12-16 weeks for health benefits, before a 4-6 week break would be good.
I hope you see this.
PDL,
Good question. I fairly certain it has not been studied in humans. But I’m not sure the analogy you’ve used applies to Turmeric (C-500), or any other spice, fruit, or vegetable that is consumed regularly.
You may be correct that the pain relief effects are attenuated over time (again, that’s a maybe), but the vast collection of other benefits from C-500 would probably remain from continued use.

Tim,
Thank you for the thoughtful insight that you’ve taken the time to relay in the thread, it is very much appreciated.
I lost my colon from toxic megacolon (via ulcerative colitis…via Accutane…) almost over a year ago.
I’m doing better now in terms of getting muscle back and what not (you can see my sweet scars in my avatar), but about a month ago and prior to that, I had to go to the bathroom soooooooooo many times per day. It was ridiculous. I couldn’t go longer than 3 hours max without going, and often I would have to go multiple times within that 3 hour span. Sometimes I would have to go over 5 times within an hour span. No joke. It was getting ridiculously bad.
But ever since going gluten free and adding Biotest’s Curcumin to my supplement regime…the difference is NIGHT AND DAY. Now I go to the bathroom on average of 4 times PER DAY. I can sometimes go over 7-9 hours without having to go.

Whose currently taking this and for what? How are your results? I just ordered up a couple bottles and would love to hear peoples feedback.
Any other thoughts or comments on timing or dose?
I picked up a few bottles of this. I’m on my second bottle now, having stuck to a regimented 4/day (broken up into 2 intakes - one with breakfast, the other with dinner… always with fat present). I don’t know how well it’s working for inflammation, as I also take a fair amount of Flameout, but I haven’t noticed any significant changes from its use. I’m not saying that it’s NOT doing something, mind you. I just don’t actively see or feel any difference. I’m thinking that after my second bottle is done that I’ll go off of it for a month and see if I feel any difference, as it will be the only supplement I’m coming off of.
Got a couple of bottles of this stuff the other week. Been taking 2 caps per day (one in the morning and one at night). Noticed a couple of things:
If I don’t drink enough water with it, I get very mild heartburn. Assuming this is due to the piperine.
I have TMJ and have been having a lot of issues with my jaw locking up lately. Since starting the circumin, it has locked up just once this week (and only momentarily, usually takes 30-45 minutes to come unlocked) as compared to the at least once per day that I was having issues before.

Will definitely be buying more, probably forever.
The heartburn thing is huge for me. Thanks for the feedback.

It’s incredibly minimal, usually goes away in 5-10 minutes and isn’t even very bad to begin with. Don’t get it at all if I take the Curcumin with 8 oz or more water. It’s when I dump it down with a sip of water as I’m running out the door or something that I get it.
