Got 405 for 7 reps tonight in the deadlift! this was with full deload of the weight not touch and go. Sooo happy about that! I had more in me but my coach told me not to grind out any reps.

So you’re not blaming this effort on Christian Pop Music? I still think you need to start reading your Bible.

HAHA it’s all in good fun CP, nice work, keep it up.

Lol I’m Catholic man, I even have my mini prayer book if you want to borrow it :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m just not down with the music outside of Church haha.

Plus I had my iPOD CRANKED up so I was able to drown it out!

HAHA man, just giving you a hard time. I agree with you, Church music needs to stay in Church, unless someone wants to willingly want to listen to it outside of Church.

How are things at work going?

Work is going better thanks! We avoided major layoffs, even with our 100% drug test (out of 1500 employees only 14 were let go).

Haha get back to me in Dec though, I’m up for a promotion then and we’ll see how it goes. I earned this one a while ago but they were too cheap to give it to me lol.

How are things going with you?

Not bad, only 14 out of 1500 employees were let go, that’s really good. Oh yeah, was that the promotion you mentioned a couple of months ago, where your manager said you were too young or something? Good luck, hope you get it.

It’s all good in the hood with me here, thanks.

lol yea let’s hope I’m old enough now!

One of the 14 people let go was my inventory control specialist. SO now I have this old inventory sitting on the plant floor but no one knows how to get it off the books in the computer system! Haha it’s kind of funny and I’m sure the guy let go would laugh knowing we screwed ourselves by firing him.

Well I did 5 sets of 3 reps with 225 on bench last night.

It went well so I’m happy. It was even better knowing that I was pounded into the ground at work until pretty late and then ran over to the gym (was in a workshop from 7:30am-6PM to find cost savings).

Did heavy singles in the deadlift tonight working up to 500x1 and then dropping down to 315 for triples.

Then did 3x10 with hammer curls and calves.

It was a good night

Worked up to a 470 squat today. I wish I could say I got it, but I cut it just a little too high.

Those damn voices got to me, you know the ones saying “ths weight is too heavy”. Normally I take some nose tork and that kills the voices but I didn’t today and that’s why I cut it high.

Oh well, felt pretty damn good having that much weight on my back!

You better be doing January. I got a Viking V-type this weekend.

Doesn’t look like it man :frowning:

Did you try it out yet? I like the Viking material but haven’t tried the V-type.

Come on man, apparently the hotel that the meet is at has a special rate for people doing the meet and you can bring your training partners up and make them split the cost with you. C’mon Mike…c’monnn. haha.

I havent tried it out yet, Im going to give pulling in it a shot tonight though.

My training partners said from the start that they couldn’t go.

Plus there is a push/pull meet here in Gville in Feb. and then a full power meet in Charleston in March.

Are those UPA meets? I think my training partner might be doing one of them…

The Feb. meet is a UPA meet that isn’t finalized yet.

The March meet isn’t. I forget the fed. I’ll have to look it up.

So on bench last night I was warming up and pulled a read delt muscle by going with a wider grip than normal. I still was able to put up 275 thought and then called it quits because of my shoulder.

It’s sore as hell today but I suspect it will be just fine after I rest it the rest of this week.

Today is my last training day and it will be back work. Tomorrow after work I fly back home to DC for Thanksgiving with my family  Always good times going to DC and it will be great to see my sister and brother in-law again.

Did some good back work last night. Superset of lat pull down with 140lbs and T-bar row with 225.

Then did some neutral grip and V-handle pulldowns. Final superset was of cable rows and barbell shrugs.

Then I did some preacher curls.

This will be my last workout of the week. This afternoon I fly home to DC to see my family and eat a shit ton of food

I may push around my parents SUV for some cardio lol we shall see.

Well here is my report from 1/2 a week off, I ate a lot and my shoulder still hurts like a bitch.

Oh and my buddies wedding went really well and my sister doesn’t look fat given she is 6 months pregnant.

Entered a Push/Pull meet on Feb 21st today.

Still sick as a freaken dog though

Thanks man! I was back at it this weekend.

Did squats this weekend.

With my coaches/training partners help and guidance I have decided to take a year to bring up my raw lifts and focus on my weak points. I’m just not strong enough yet to be messing with all of this gear.

So 2009 will be the year to get strong, go up to 220 weight class, and that’s it. I may do a meet here and there but I wont be training for any meets, just using them as a way to measure my progress.

Nice work man, sorry to hear you are sick, hope you feel better soon.

You know, I don’t know all that much about powerlifting, but it made me so happy to hear you say this.

I feel like there are tons of guys out there who aren’t strong enough to be fucking with shirts and suits, most of whom are much weaker than you. It’s big of you to come out and up your raw strength for a while first. I’m sick of seeing videos of tiny guys with massive gear. Until a certain point at one’s progress, I feel like using all the gear really isn’t appropriate. Just my two cents.

Good stuff man.

Haha thanks man! It took some real thinking and honest talk to get to the point of me deciding that. I mean lifting in gear is just flat out fun, but like one of my training partners said, I’ll just get hurt if I keep doing it.

I really need to focus on my lower back, widening my squat stance, and getting a wider grip on my bench. My hips are too weak right now to be any good at the wide stance squats in gear, so that’s why I’ll be squatting wide and working on getting the weight higher. I’ll also be doing more sumo deadlifts to focus on my hips.

My goals are a 315 squat for 8 reps totally raw (no belt, no knee wraps) before I put my suit back on and at least a 285 raw, paused bench.

Haha it was a big old kidney shot to the ego admitting I’m just not strong enough yet, but in the long run I know it will be worth it. I really want to be a powerlifter, not just some guy dicking around in the gym!
