Spent the weekend pretty sick, still getting over it. Was a little less strict with rest times than usual, since counting breaths was a non-starter.

The one-leg pressing really fried my quads, despite me not being very strong on it.

One more session until my next deload, so I went a bit heavy on the pressing—felt great. And after that, I’ll be back in MD, so most of the machine weights and some of the actual exercises will have to change.

Will know by the end of May at the latest whether I’ll be in Tuscaloosa or Charlottesville next year—fingers crossed that my deferral gets approved. I’ve ended up enjoying my time here a lot and getting a free M.A. out of it would be cool, even if it’s a pretty useless one.

Landed an interview with the Japanese embassy in D.C. for a security job this summer. I have about a sixty-five pound advantage against the average Japanese citizen, so hopefully I look scary enough to get hired lol.

Graduated undergrad Summa Cum Laude, flew back up to MD, and currently am trying to find a summer job so I’ll have some more money saved up when the next year of school rolls around. Feeling nice and fresh from the deload, was really able to push this session. This smith machine in particular feels very nice to squat on. I’d like an actual Hack squat machine, but beggars can’t be choosers.

A huge congratulations to you! Well done.

Just found out that I made it to the second round of interviews at the Japanese Embassy. The interview itself will be sometime next week—fingers crossed.

Not a fan of the dip station here + no machine bench press in this gym, so those two got swapped.

It remains easier to frame my performance as “good press” rather than “bad bench”

This was one of those days where I already knew it was gonna a make me extremely sore walking out of the gym. I’m going to try cutting out the squats the I’ve been starting my lower days with (they weren’t part of the program, anyways) so that I can really focus on pushing the programmed quad and ham work.

This week is busy for me. Between Sunday and Wednesday, I’m going to have three interviews (the Japanese embassy, some random grocery store, and a research study I’m getting paid to be a subject in), a date at the National Gallery, and I’ll find out if my deferral request is going to be approved or not.

UVA approved my deferral, and I get to keep my scholarship there. So now I’ll be going back to Alabama for my M.A. next year and then graduating law school in Spring 2029. Very pleased with the news :]

Second round of interviews for the Japanese embassy went very well. The first question of the day was my deadlift PR, which is probably the first and last time I’ll be asked that in an interview lol. That, my publication, and some word-vomit I produced about deescalation and triaging seemed to impress.

Bro, getting asked about your deadlift in a formal interview is honestly legendary. You’ve made it

Did a drop set-ish burnout after the first four exercises. No lockout, lighter weight, “feeling the muscle,” all that sort of stuff. It felt great (especially the pulldown, that’s a movement I normally struggle to actually feel in my lats) and didn’t add much time to the workout (still done in under an hour, which is what I’m aiming for) so I’ll try it for a little while and see what I think.
