@SvenG Thanks! I think I started my log a few weeks after that date, so I have another year-in-review to write soonish

Going to swap out DB bench next time—I’m simply not good enough at it to keep any sort of stability on subsequent sets after going to failure. Cool PR though, so at least that movement goes out on a high note.
Weighed in at 201.0, clothed, right after this. Body comp is looking decent enough, given I still get like 90% of my calories from dining hall food. I’m actually quite interested to see how dramatic of a change I’ll notice in my body comp and performance once I’m fully in charge of my own nutrition and can apply the same level of scrutiny that I do with my training

The belt squat was broken, so I swapped it out with a Precor squat machine. It’s designed as such an absurdly long second-class lever that I had to add like 630 pounds worth of plates to get my top set difficult. There’s another setting, but the “bar path” (no actual bar) felt weird so I didn’t bother.

Chins feeling like they’re starting to come back. Haven’t pushed them at all since fucking up my lat, but that was a pretty decent set.
Got three pieces of good news within the space of a few hours:
Good news indeed! Well done.
Which one? I’ve got access to most, would love to take a look at it
The issue I’m being published in isn’t going out until July, but it’s the in-house journal for a liberal arts school in Mississippi. Nothing super fancy or competitive, but it’s my first time undergoing peer review so I’m pretty pleased.
If you have an email you’re okay with sharing on here or Instagram, I can send it to you directly (same goes for anyone else who frequents my log). It’s about wartime ethics, so I’m guessing you’ll either be a fan or think I’m horribly out of touch and need to spend a few years on a boat.
Oh I’ll message you on IG.
And FWIW, despite all the time on the boat, I really do appreciate hearing all sides of these types of arguments. There’s a distinct difference between philosophy and strategy, and someone arguing one doesn’t negate the other. Sometimes things work. They are terrible, but they work. The argument about if we should do them is entirely separate from the argument of how we do them, if that makes sense.
… really fighting the urge to ramble on a 3000 word monologue rn…. So yeah, my interest is piqued lol. I was captain of my colleges ethics debate team back in the day, this is very much a hobby of mine haha
That makes me think—for all the arguments I’ve heard about underrepresentation and inclusion in philosophy, I don’t think I’ve ever read a philosophy paper written by a veteran, despite being in a couple classes regarding that sort of stuff. I actually had one Polisci professor who was a former JAG, who said that he very deliberately avoided writing about the military for his first ~decade in academia because he was worried that he’d get dogpiled for being “indoctrinated.”
Huh. Honestly, I’d say that’s probably more a reflection on your schools selected readings than on essays in general. There are a TON written my vets. Journal of military ethics is predominantly veteran in fact. I would also argue that two of the seminal writers that, while not directly writing philosophical essays, certainly influencing philosophy and psychology on military conduct via their books, were VADM James Stockdale and LTCOL Dave Grossman. Tons of great stuff came out of Vietnam in terms of veteran philosophy, I think a preponderance in the GWOT has been more psychology focused, but definitely with ethical considerations
Make that $3,000 and a publication this week :]

I fly home Saturday, so I’ll probably lift Thursday/Friday this week.
I’ve worked out an agreement with one of my friends where every week, I give him LSAT tutoring and he cooks me a ribeye. That seems worth bragging about.
Unrelated, but my scholarship offer from Georgetown came in today—35k per year, which brings the total tuition down to about 120k. UVA’s offer comes tomorrow, and Northwestern’s later this month. Then (if necessary,) I negotiate, and then commit/defer.
