This took ~30 minutes from walking in to walking out. Flew back into Alabama on Saturday, and will be here for the last two weeks of the semester. I only have three tests/assignments left for the semester, so it should be a pretty laid-back two weeks.
Two A+'s locked in for this semester, and three classes remaining where I still have stuff to do. Finishing well this semester is pretty important, because these grades are the last ones that law schools still making their decision on me will see.
Reaggrevated my back. I’m tempted to just give it a week to calm down at this point, since this has happened a few times lately. Will see what my coach thinks.
My time getting coached will end on January or February 1st — still thinking Doggcrapp or something like it is gonna make an appearance after that. Leg and back movements will probably be front squats, leg press, smith-machine split squats, and a bunch of different types of rows, so that I can take some time off from beating the shit out of my back with barbell deadlifts and back squats.
Press is going great, at least. Even after I make the program-switch, I think I might still keep that as-is (or at least make it one of the DC shoulder movements + do straight sets) so that I can keep milking that
Edit: Grades just got entered, five A+'s for the semester. Will send off my updated transcript to the law schools where I’m still being considered, and apply for some additional scholarships through UA
Press: 165x6/6
Squat: 245x6/6
Machine Row: 200x8/8
Leg Curls: 160x8
Bumping squats and deadlifts up by 20 Lbs each session until they’re back to where they were. Press and bench are more like ten-pound jumps. Today felt good though—everything moving quickly (as it should) and painless.
I suck at waiting in general, so I’m getting pretty stressed over it. I already have some really good options though, which takes a lot of the pressure off. Like worst-case scenario (feels dumb to even use that term) at this point is still a top ten program that places especially well in the sort of work I wanna do (Fed Gov stuff).
Harvard is giving its first acceptance calls on 1/6, so I’m gonna be glued to my phone for most of that day. Y’all will be among the first to know if I get good news.
What direction are you looking to go with this? I’ve considered similar, and have a decent amount of exposure/experience with it from some earlier jobs. Definitely an interesting route, with some great options
The DOJ honors program (which itself has a bunch of subdivisions, but beggars can’t be choosers) is something I’d really like to do. I’m intent on clerking for a federal judge right after I graduate, as well. In the long run, I’d like to be an AUSA.
One of my uncles did Fedgov attorney work for the SEC, but I have zero interest in working with money so that side of things doesn’t sound super appealing. And one of my favorite undergrad professors began his career as a JAG and speaks quite highly of that route, but I haven’t considered it much.
In the very long run I can see myself getting a PhD and going into academia, whether in law or polisci or philosophy. But that’s sort of an afterthought for now
