I lift twice a week and try to hit an elliptical trainer 1 or 2 times/wk and I try to jog for an hour once a week. When I jog, more times than not A calf muscle will cramp and end my workout. Does anybody know why? How can I prevent this?
Have you tried stretching your calfs regularly?

At least 3 times a week
Could be a magnesium deficiency. Try ZMA.
Did you just start jogging? I’m prone to calf cramps, but I usually just get them at the start of rugby season, when I’m not used to the volume of running. After a few weeks I’m usually fine. Also, I usually only get them when I haven’t kept up on my water intake. Make sure you drink water thoughout the day so that your not dehydrated by the time you jog. Hope that helps.

Could also be a potassium deficiency. But if you’re eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, probably unlikely.
In cases like this it is most often a probablem with either a magnesium deficiency or too much volume too soon. Either way, Epsom salt baths do the trick quite well.
Rolo.
All the mineral suggestions may be correct, but it may be as simple as overstraining the soleus muscle. Try working your calves with bent knees. Soleus exhaustion is a knowm case of runners having to quit races.

Do you start cramping within an hour of jogging? Have you recently started jogging after not doing this level of cardio? Do you sweat alot?
You might need to continue jogging and use an electrolyte replenishment type supplement endurolytes from e-caps. Good product I use for my 12 hour adventure races and mountain bike races to help with leg cramps.
Muscle cramping is usually assocoiated with a lack of water.Aloso,if you live in a hot climate area you might try ti increase your salt in take prior to each workout. But more often than not you are suffering from a fluid intake.
