Well, here’s an ad from 8 years ago, also from the British Heart Foundation, using young soccer players as a reference point for heart attacks. So, to answer your question of when, the answer is that this particular organization has been doing this for at least 8 years. I’m not sure why, but for anyone who thinks this is some sort of Covid-related conspiracy… no. Fabrice Muamba cardiac arrest used in British Heart Foundation advert | Daily Mail Online
List keeps growing
Why did you say ‘normalise heart issues in the young’ are you accusing the BHF of something?
As flip collar stated this has been known for a long time, we’ve (UK) had AEDs (defibs) near playing fields and parks for over a decade in rural areas. Any sports first aid course will look at CPR, it’s nothing new.
Of course the list keeps growing, time goes on. Has the rate altered?
I did a little bit of googling, and it seems the right wing conspiracy theory at play is ‘covid vaccine is making young people have heart attacks, and the medical field wants you think it’s normal so that’s why this ad exists, and there’s a massive conspiracy at play worldwide regarding said disinformation campaign.’
In other words: it’s pretty fucking stupid.
You think a commercial showing a soccer player having a heart attack is coincidence? You gave 1 example from 2013 there have been well over a hundred athlete deaths from heart attacks in months since the vaccine. Coincidence? Come on.
They told us the vaccines would prevent catching and transmitting covid they were wrong/lied. Same with its waning efficacy. Their own studies showed the truth but, they twisted the facts.
Why is it hard to believe that there are side effects? Especially given the fact there were no long term studies. Also, they do not want to let out the data for 50 yrs. Why is that?
This is the same company that created Vioxx committed fraud with the numbers and studies which resulted in 160,000 heart attacks and 60,000 deaths. They did this knowingly. Same with Bextra.
*forgot which one it was but, they made 12 billion and were fined a little over 1 billion. Seems fair…right?
6 months prior to the pandemic Pharma companies hit record lows with regard to public opinion. They now rank in the top 10 in public trust. The con they played on the public is ridiculous.
Was the Guatemalan player you posted about vaccinated? Where the hundred athletes you mentioned? How many normally die world wide from heart issues? Has the rate changed?
Do I trust pharma, no. Do I trust public health England and organisations like the British heart Foundation, yes. We know vaccines have a link to myocarditis, the BHF has a web page on it. But is it still safer to take the vaccine? Yes, the ONS and other agencies show data on this. I dont know about organisations in other countries but the UK organisations seem to show data quickly when they get it. I think you’re UK based as you use a lot of UK referencing tweets, sources and media (lots of Murdoch)?
There’s always side effects but attributing every heart issue in sport to vaccines needs some very strong evidence.
To note, the vaccine can cause myocarditis. The incidence of which is most commonly found in those taking moderna, hence I’m actually opting out of moderna and going for pfizer or AZ (my preference) when I get my booster shot.
Myocarditis CAN cause arrhythmia… but I don’t believe it causes MI. Your “people are having heart attacks” narrative doesn’t add up
myocarditis can cause sudden cardiac death, but I can’t see the link etween MI
Lists have been posted many times as well as multiple individual stories. Rate has changed, graphs have been posted as well.
The rest I have answered multiple times.
There’s also this alleged “flu” going around that increases the risk of myocarditis in healthy young men several orders of magnitude more than any Covid vaccine.
Maybe some of those athletes died from covid induced heart issues, such as this guy who died back in the summer of '20 when vaccines weren’t yet available?

Ojo was reported to have tested positive for the coronavirus, but also that he had recovered. Local media reported that he died of a heart attack.
Aware… I caught the flu almost 14 days ago
It WIPED me out (I’ve had it before). My resting heart rare was 12-130, spent three days in bed… I was training when it was coming on and couldn’t figure out why I was getting out of breath so quickly, the fever had the next day helped me figure that one out.
Tested negative for covid. It’s flu season in Belgium. Almost 1% of the population is getting it every 1-2 weeks.
I passed it onto two people that I know of. One was fine, the other was also wiped out for five days or so.
I gave one example FROM THE SAME HEALTH ORGANIZATION creating almost exactly the same ad 8 years ago. The point was that it’s not new or noteworthy that the British Heart Foundation is running ads that feature a soccer player having a heart attack, because they’ve literally done it before, WAAAAY before Covid. So the narrative you’re trying to push that the British Heart Foundation is part of some conspiracy involving normalize heart disease among young athletes BECAUSE the Covid vaccine causes heart disease among young athletes is absolutely a trash argument.
You’re right that the vaccine hasn’t been as effective at preventing individuals from catching Covid as was originally presented. 100% agree with you there. The data agrees with that.
The data also shows that cases are far less likely to result in hospitalization/death in conjunction with the vaccine. That remains true.
There’s a problem with coming to the conclusion that the vaccine does not reduce the likelihood that you’ll catch it all, however. The confounding variable is that human behavior changed when people got the vaccine. They stopped wearing masks, started going out more, and all the benefits of the vaccine in terms of lowering transmission rates were essentially counteracted by the increased social contact.
It’s not. I’m not suggesting that nobody ever gets side effects from the vaccine. There is plenty of data saying there ARE potential side effects in a small minority of the population that gets it. I’m saying that we’re not having athletes dying left and right because of the vaccine.
What other conspiracy theories do you buy into?
I do look at the links, except for the sun, and saw personal stories and lists but must have missed the rate changes for heart attacks? I’ll go look if you can point me in the right direction? I saw the tweets you linked with death rates but answered that post as the tweeter failed to age standardise.
To me, if there is an increase in heart attacks, I can think of several reasons why there would be an uptick. Most people did far less exercise during the lockdowns. Going from sedentary to extremely active (soccer players getting back to training), is going to increase the likelihood of heart attacks.
Depression is up (mostly from lockdowns), depression and heart disease are also correlated.
If there is an uptick in heart attacks, there are many culprits. Assuming it is one thing without good evidence to show it doesn’t seem wise to me.
I still haven’t seen evidence of this in the first place.
I honestly don’t know either way, but what bothered me was the jumping to conclusions that it has to be the vaccine. So many things changed in the last couple years; to just assume a cause ruffled my feathers a bit.
Oh for sure. I’m just not even going to go so far as to come up with alternative explanations, when there’s no proof of the initial claim in the fucking first place. It’s incumbent upon sparky to prove that the initial claim is fact first, and then the arguments of ‘why’ follow.
But I will ask this: @sparkyo, over 90% of NFL players have gotten the vaccine. If the vaccine causes heart attacks in young athletes, why are there zero cases of current NFL players having a heart attack in the last year?
I found several articles about a study done on the rise in heart attacks among young people. The study was published in 2019, meaning heart attacks are indeed on the rise amongst young people, but clearly the data doesn’t correlate with Covid vaccination, considering the vaccine only became available in 2021. I wonder what explanation there could be… perhaps these researchers falsified data 2 years prior in order to be prepared to explain away the heart attacks making news today? HMMMMMMMM??? Yea, I bet that’s it. That’d be a pretty sweet conspiracy.
The vast majority were never at risk of this.
Blockquote They stopped wearing masks, started going out more, and all the benefits of the vaccine in terms of lowering transmission rates were essentially counteracted by the increased social contact
That is not how vaccines are suppose to work. Masks never did anything which is why they are no longer recommended.
Those people were pretty much safe from covid. It was an unnecessary risk to be vaccinated. Again no long term studies.
Again Vioxx, Bextra
Again, to think they are above doing this again is ridiculous l.
This is the same company that created Vioxx committed fraud with the numbers and studies which resulted in 160,000 heart attacks and 60,000 deaths. They did this knowingly. Same with Bextra.
- forgot which one it was but, they made 12 billion and were fined a little over 1 billion. Seems fair…right?
I will try to find the paper but, the effects on the cardiovascular system was nowhere near the same. Same with basketball.
I’m not sure what you’re saying here. Are you saying the effects on the cardiovascular system of the vaccine are not the same on American football players as they are on soccer players? Just trying to clarify, your phrasing is ambiguous.
