Cottage Cheese? Ugh.

I have a wide palette, but lord, if this isn’t the most disgusting food on Earth. But I know it’s an awesome snack just before bedtime/if you wake in the middle of the night. Any ideas on how to disguise it, to use it as a late night snack? I’m guessing fruit (because of the sugars) would be a bad idea while you’re looking to sleep. Otherwise, what would good alternatives to it be?

If you hate cottage cheese - throw it in the blender, add some cinnamon, nutmeg, and natty pb. Blend the hell out of it until you get a smooth texture. It will taste like warm(er) Cinabon ice cream.

Or, cottage cheese, a little milk, some frozen berries, and some protein powder (optional) - blend it up and you will have one hell of a smoothie.

The blender removes the cottage cheese texture - and since cc has very little taste, the mixture will have only the taste of what you add to it.

You can also try different brands. Some brands make me gag and others I can’t get enough of.

I agree with Christine, I noticed some of the generic brands aren’t as good. I also prefer the taste of low fat (4%) vs. fat free and small curd over large curd. In the end I think its one of those foods you consume for its health benefits and look past its taste.

I can eat any kind of cottage cheese. What I sometimes do is put pepper(like from a pepper shaker) on top, mix it up, and it kind of gives it a new taste. I did that when I first started eating it, but now I can eat it straight. Also, a lot of people like it with fruit(I’ve never tried this) so maybe give that a shot.

If it makes you gag don’t eat it.

When I wakeup in the middle of the night I chug milk.

Works fine.

Put some extra sea salt and lots of olive oil in it. Maybe some good quality oregano as well. Believe me, that will make it taste pretty good.

Add half a scoop of Metabolic Drive and a bit of water to help it mix. Is tasty.

This gets brought up about once every 3 months, there are some great recipes in some of the other threads, i highly suggest you check them out.

just search cottage cheese

I have tried string cheeses, hardboiled eggs, chunk light tuna, natty peanut butter.

They all work good in small amounts pre bed, for me it seemed anyway.

What’s the shelf life (or rather the fridge life) of the brand you buy? If it’s anything more than a week, it’s bad cottage cheese.

I agree that this is a common thread and the search function on this site or Google would give you more hits than would think.
You can buy a better brand or add things to alter the flavor.

I like cottage cheese occasionally but if I eat it too often I have to add natty peanut butter. I tend to buy generic or low fat in many items, but not for cottage cheese. I have Breakstones two percent in refrigerator right now. The texture and flavor is better than store brand.

You do not have to eat something you do not like. The cost per gram of protein from a brand name cottage cheese versus casein protein powder is pretty similar. You could also just add whey protein powder to milk and eat a tablespoon of peanut butter to slow digestion right before bed.

You have to find the kind without salt. Tastes much better.

I like Food Lion’s cottage cheese.

Breakstone’s cottage cheese sucks imo.

BiLo’s is in-between those two.

I like cottage cheese, but if you don’t, why eat it? It’s a great food, but it’s not the end-all of nutrition.

Not to diss anyone elses palette, as I’ve been known to eat gross stuff, but some of the add-ins posted seem like more aquired tastes than cottage cheese alone. (I’d try them, but someone that dislikes cottage cheese in the first place might not.)

I mix it with peanut butter. That takes care of the texture problem. To eliminate the taste I don’t breathe through my nose. I usually just stick a glob in my mouth and wash it down with some water.

A favorite of mine used to be 1 cup cottage cheese, 1 scoop vanilla Metabolic Drive and 1/4 cup splenda. mix it up real good and it’s a sweet treat.

Carbs help you sleep at night…or at least they help me. I find when I have some fruit or some good carbs pre-bed, I have a better nights rest than just straight protein.
