I have read some of Alwyn’s articles and also his locker room chats. Saw a lot of people praising him on his programs and guys saying they were going to start (fill in the blank) but I never read anything from anyone who implemented any of his programs.
Who here has done/implemented any of his programs and what kind of results did you get?
Disclaimer: This post is in no way meant to call Alwyn’s expertise into question or the effectiveness of his programs. I think they would be great. Last week I started using Meltdown Training and finishing off with some of Alwyn’s complexes.
I’m a personal trainer and have used many of his ideas (full body workouts, complexes, interval sprints, etc.) when training clients and have had excellent results with them.
Used only his Hypertrophy 1 and FB3 for 6 months and dropped about 40 lbs of flab, and put on muscle. His stuff is the real deal, and you can do it for a long time without burning out.

Thanks for the responses.
hankr, I am guessing those programs you are referring to are from his book that came out last year right? [/quote]
Yep - Lots in it that would be familiar to a regular T mag reader, but also some great programs. Esp his way of alternating workouts in conjunction with varying rep ranges seems to make for steady progress without overtraining.
I’m about to cycle back to Fatburn 3 with the get shredded diet to lose these last 15 lbs or so of fat. I’ve just been coasting pretty much since Xmas, enjoying being below 200 for hte first time in years.
Buy the book, or at least thumb through it in a book store. Great addition to anyone’s library.
Love AC’s DVD and books. If you ever get a chance to hear him speak, go for it. He’s vulgar, funny and really smart. Now I only do full body workouts.
ps - just yesterday i did his one-legged good morning/miltary press. A really challenging complex movement. Put one leg on a bench, do a good morning and then a press. A great workout for the hammies as it hits them in so many directions. Good luck!
If you check Cosgroves site under the articles section you will see examples of his complexes. Without wishing to start a flame war Crossfit has the same idea although they do seem like a bunch of right wing cultish nutbags.
Some of their circuits do seem to push the metabolic conditioning angle very hard.
I actually consider Afterburn to be a largely overpriced, poorly presented rehash of simple circuit training.
