I read Dave Tate’s article on chain and band training and want to get into it.
If i currently bench 315 and want to get it to 400 would this band be suitable ??

Everyone knows the correct band size is 4: a vocalist, a guitarist, a bassist, and a drummer.
Look for something like the equivalent of the mini bands sold on elitefts - http://www.flexcart.com/members/elitefts/default.asp?m=PD&cid=114&pid=246. When benching with bands, the bands are doubled, so even fairly light bands will provide a lot of tension.
The ones you linked to look like the equivalent of light jumpstretch bands, which are too much for benching except for guys who bench 800+. I think you want either the Super-Mini Power Bands or the Mini Power Bands.
Get the mini bands. the monster minis wouldn’t be necessary unless you want some variety on the very difficult side.
hey thanks for the help guys.
I just wonder if the minis will give enough resistance cos it says for them its only 10 to 50 lbs. I mean 10 lbs doesnt sound like much.
the small ones give 25 to 80 lbs which seams more appropriate.

I don’t think you understand how bands are setup for benching…
I searched for a good pic or video on elitefts that shows how to setup bands, this was the best I found: http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/default.asp?qid=10979&tid=101.
Notice how the bands are doubled. This will make the bands twice as strong, and the tension will scale 4x as fast. I’m pretty sure that when it says 50 lbs of resistance they’re talking about when you stretch it in a straight line. But if you fold it in half and stretch it, as would be the case when you’ve got it doubled over the bar for benching, the tension will be twice as much. So it would really be more like 100 lbs of resistance at the top and 20 at the bottom.
In short, you want to get whatever is equivalent to JumpStretch’s mini bands. And as far as I can tell, that’s either the Mini Power Bands or the Super-Mini Power Bands. If the Mini Power Bands are equivalent to Jumpstretch’s monster minis then they may even be a bit much, but you could probably handle them if you drop some bar weight.
I’m 99% sure that the Small Power Bands would be way too much for you for benching.
cheers mate you’ve sold me on the mini’s !!
would someone mind linking me to a couple articles on band training that you found particularily helpful
