You’re right, I’ve had numerous VALID suggestions that I’ve ignored- like Ronnie Coleman’s training- because he was a full time police officer while winning olympias, and Derek Poundstone, who I’m sure was also a full time police officer throughout. Then there were the military guys mentioned, but aside from Alpha, I haven’t seen mention from the others as to any running/conditioning they do. As far as Alpha- I think the man is from another planet.
I’m not sure what is so complicated about what I asked- COPS- how do you train? You’d think that COPS might see the question, click the thread and respond- just as Overrev did, but instead a bunch of people need to add their two-cents. Explain that to me. I wonder why when “Stormthebeach how do you train?” all of you clowns that think you need an answer in every thread don’t step up to the plate and answer for him, but someone asks COPS to simply share how they train, and you’ve got to get some words on the screen. What, fundamentally, is the difference in that question? I’ve removed “Stormthebeach” and replaced it with “COPS”. Stormthebeach applies to a specific person, while COPS applies to a specific group of people.
I give up. There’s some clowns rolling around this site that need to be involved in everything. I’ll just go back to answering questions about 5/3/1 because that’s what I know, and I won’t ask any questions, because apparently that’s not allowed without having to explain yourself to the Nth degree.
Ridiculous.

You seem like a pretty sensitive guy who is overly dramatic and gets worked up way too easily. I dont know if you would make the best Police Officer.

You’re right, I just got so mad a threw my computer out the window. You are, without a doubt, the coolest guy here. You’re WINNING!!![/quote]
hahahaha that was obviously a joke but you kinda proved my point with this passive aggressive melodramatic reaction lol
Again, you’re not so good with the words, because if that was a joke, there’s nothing that “obviously” makes it so, at least to me. My reply, on the other hand, was “obviously” kidding, as I couldn’t have thrown my computer out the window, yet still continued to post a reply. Get it…get it?

hahahahaha! I knew you didnt actually throw your computer out the window LOL… How old are you?

Yea, that’s true. If Gregron has actually been “trolling” me or whatever, than I’m the idiot for assuming he had better things to do with his time than try to start fights on teh interwebz.

My first response to you was 100% legit. The last two (about you not being cut out for police work) were jokes/trolling/getting-under-your-skin/whatever you wanna call it, cause you’ve proven to be so sensi.
In the long run I’m really just helping you out because you’re going to need thick skin if you’re going to make it as a Cop. You’ll be eatin alive in the academy if you get all butthurt at every little joke/comment. You should probably be thanking me right now, actually there is no “probably”… You most definitely should be thanking me.
You know what Dez… You’re welcome brah, you’re welcome.
Best training for an aspiring cop would be to just bully people who are smaller than you on a daily basis and practice your Alpha Male strut in a full length mirror while wearing mirrored sunglasses.
That and the Tom Selleck max-hypertrophy mustache growing program as set by Magnum PI himself.
Actually Dez, Gregron was right. Train for your specific goals. Not every officer on my department trains, and not everyone who trains does it in the same way.
We have some very big, powerlifter types, some bodybuiler types, Crossfit Kool-Aid drinkers, runners, bicycle racers, etc. It really depends how you want to perform, and what you want to look like.
If I read correctly, you do 5/3/1…I think that’s a great program for officers, provided they actually do the sprint / conditioning work after each workout.
I follow Military Athlete, personally. I’m not in the military anymore, but I like the programming and the results I get from doing it.
Lift weights, get big and strong (pretty sure you aren’t right now), run a couple miles from time to time, do some sort of sprints/conditioning work 2-4x per week, problem solved. Strong with a decent/good cardio base. Nothing that difficult about it man.
My partners that train, train depending on their schedule, goals, likes and backgrounds. We have some that only train MMA or BJJ x3 or more a week with no lifting. A few do P90x or Crossfit. Some lift with various programs. Others just run, cycle or play a sport in a city league (soccer and basketball are popular) with a few sets of body weight exercises thrown in. One is a triathlete.
You’ll also see the training change during the year. An example is as SWAT tryouts/PT test comes around, those interested in or on the team adjust their training for the test (run, push-ups, sit-ups and pull-ups). Or as you move to another shift changes maybe needed. For example: most MA gyms are geared for evening classes, it’s hard to do if you work 3 or 4 nights weekday nights/week.
Looking at my log for the last 6 months, the majority of my time has been spent on 5/3/1 or Starting Strength type programs. I put in some additional running because of a specific need/goal.
Strongest advice though is to match your program with your goal. If you are looking at going to an academy in the near future. Take a look at their daily physical demands not just the formal PT requirements. A normal day at one academy nearby will have you doing 400-600 push-ups and squat thrusts throughout the day before getting to the PT session. And there’s is very little lifting and no tests on lifts.
