Some decent stretches to aid in liberating sciatica and lower back issues
Just 10-15min a day do these stretches and should help with allieviating some soreness, just did them now and feel way better
Here’s the reply i posted to that post - maybe they’ll put it up, but in case they don’t, voici - main take away - stretching rarely sorts out sciatica. or much of anything for the long haul as a primary, independent approach.
yes sciatica can certainly be a pain in the butt and debilitating.
Glad you’ve found something that works in terms of all these stretches.
I work with a lot of folks who have gone the stretching route and still do not find relief. Why? why would someone think that stretching - esp static stretching like this - is a solution?
As you note yourself - you’re still “struggling” with sciatica with even this routine.
"With that said, I still struggle with sciatic. " That suggests it, along with your weight lifting, while benefiting your body, may not be working entirely, eh?
Maybe the questions could be:
why do you think static stretching (as opposed to just your weight lifting) is helping your sciatica?
if you seemingly need all that stretching - it does make a temporary impact - could something else be wrong such that your body is supposedly getting this tight?
From the folks i work with, often they are tight for a reason: their cns does not feel safe letting them have greater range of motion - something’s inducing a threat response at the fundamental level.
Deal with the threat, motion comes back.
Often dealing with the threat comes by dealing with movement and movement quality - if there’s something hinky in your movement, your nervous system, geared for survival not performance, is going to protect you from putting yourself at greater risk.
Work on movement quality and each of the joints, things very quickly open up.
Pain is a signal to change: you’ve changed a lot of stuff and that’s great; that you’re still having pain suggests there’s more and it seems other kinds of work to do.
Here’s an overview about movement and relationship with pain like you describe
i work with lots of folks via skype on back issues.
