Ive been wearing glasses since I was 12 and all the members of my family wear glasses. Ive been thinking about contacts for a while and since my college financial aid is coming soon I figured why not. A year’s worth of contacts with a full examine, fitting session and follow up for three months and free replacement of torn lenses is only $170 from my local eye doctor. I find glasses dont suit me very well, they get smudged and dirty constantly etc…So im thinking contacts.
Since you guys seem to have experience with everything I figured Id ask ur opinion.
yes or no? pros and cons?
One question I have is how does it affect your vision when looking at a computer screen? I get a headache if i keep my glasses on when looking at a comp screen. My other question is do they fall out easily?
Vision is exactly the same if not better as you don’t limit your peripheral vision by the size of your glasses.
Never had headaches.
You’d need to get hit f#$%in hard in the head to knock them out. I’ve seen a few rugby boys get whacked hard enough for them to fall out so it can happen.
Plus, i’ve got a bald head so wearing glasses then wearing contacts is the only way i can switch up my style baby!
just go for it, glasses suck balls compared to contacts. might be a bit fiddly for the 1st week but once theyre in everything looks much better cos you dont have stupid frames getting in the way. never had headaches from them only from glasses. also speaking from experience women start checking you out that wouldnt have noticed you before. Glasses=nerd for most women
I buy boxes of disposables for about $15 so maybe try that.
The funny thing is I feel I must wear my contacts for two things: Saturday night and when I exercise. It’ll be great when you exercise now if you get contacts I think. It’s funny how glasses get in the way.
I recently started wearing my glasses again and tbh i haven’t noticed much difference when I train … plus I get a lot of compliments when I wear my glasses (I guess they hide my ugly mugg) … regardless, I wouldn’t play sports in glasses (like hockey, rugby, lacrosse) just for the fact that peripheral vision is better and that’s a must in sports.
Go for it kid … but keep your glasses up to date and handy for the just in case moments
I started wearing contacts 5 years ago, I have astigmatism so my choices in lenses are limited but I recommend the Air Optix if you can afford them. They are really comfy and I forget that I am wearing them sometimes. Contacts can be a pain in the ass with all the cleaning, and expensive solutions you have to buy though, so you need to think about that. The basic Optifree solution is like 8 bucks, and it only lasts two weeks if you stretch it. That can add up over time.
1 thing to stress is CLEAN, especially your contact lens case. Every time you rinse/clean your lenses, make sure you clean out your case too.
I still have three pairs of glasses that I wear often though, I don’t think glasses=nerd for most women either. That’s pretty shallow thinking.
As for eye strain at the computer, I notice that my eyes get tired faster when I wear glasses instead of contacts. My vision is a lot sharper when I wear my glasses than my contacts, so that’s probably why.
I wear both contacts and glasses. I generally wear glasses to work because I do a LOT of close work and reading, and contacts make my eyes ache after a while, and look red. I don’t think that’s attractive.
When I have to meet clients or schmooze people, I wear contacts because I think I look better without the glasses.
The biggest advantage is they don’t get in the way. When I used to do computer tech work I wore my contacts to work all the time. It was nice not having to deal with glasses while I’m crawling under desks to fix wires and computers. Also for sports or runnin around they are a lot better than glasses. And you can wear some good sunglasses with contacts. I’ve never had problems with them falling out.
I wear my glasses most of the time now that I sit behind a desk all day. Putting in contacts can be a pain sometimes. It’s usually simple but sometimes they don’t want to cooperate. Stuff like dirt/sand getting in your eyes sucks but it’s worse with contacts. It gets caught up on/under the lens and stays there until you go take it out and wash it off. If I’ve been wearing contacts all day they start to bother me at the end of the day.
Just go get some and try it out. Everyone is a little different. In my opinion it’s worth it to have both glasses and contacts as an option.

Well, wheneer you schmooze me I always prefer you wear a brown paper bag … but then again, that’s just how I prefer you all the time so…there’s that
I have had contacts for years. My glasses are remotely updated prescriptions. I’m really stupid and never take my contacts out, even though they are supposed to be removed every night and changed 1x a month. I have just to make it a habit again.
That said, they recommend you be 25ish before getting LASIK/PRK. I am going to do that ASAP, so this is never an issue again…
coolnatedog, how do you sleep in them without your eyes hurting the next day? whenever i used to do that they would be red and hurt all the next day.
i got contacts at 13 because glasses under my lacrosse helmet sucked and the only other times ive worn glasses was if i got something in my eye and couldnt get a contact in because they were irriated (motor oil from an oil change was 1 that comes to mind, rubbing my hands on my eyes after chopping up haberneros is the other one i can think of).
you dont notice they are there and your vision is alot better IMO.

TBH, I used to have a lot of pain when I slept in them along time ago. I would have only done it if I didn’t have any other option ie. forgot case, passed out, etc.
Now, I guess my contacts are so breathable and thin, it doesn’t bother me. I am using Aqueview Oasys or something like that.
I have a very sever astigmatism and contacts are the only way I can get vision without peripheral distortion. I have to pay extra for special toroidal soft lenses but they work very well.
If you find u rub your eyes a lot or sauna after every workout then contacts may be a no. Still I keep a few pairs so I can slap them in for dates and parties as well as the odd game of basketball.
I’ve been wearing glasses since I was about 10 and when I was 17 I decided to try out contacts. Haven’t looked back since. A godsend.
Can’t go swimming with them or into a sauna but neither are things I do with great regularity anyway(despite the fact I have a life-guard qualification ha).
I would only bother putting them in if I was leaving the house for something though, and that’s only cos I hate how I look with my glasses. For the days when you are just watching TV or pissing around indoors, glasses are the way to go.
They can get irritating at times though(if you have them in too often, don’t leave your eye’s rest etc). I leave spare lens fluid and my glasses in the car for such occaisions.
x2. Best decision of my life to get zapped. Going on 7 years of bionic laser vision and nothing but good things to say. Of course, I didn’t have much to lose. Without correction, I was walking into walls. Maybe something to think about in the future, but definately get the contacts. Follow the natural progression of things. Glasses (meh) → Contacts (much better) → Lasix (kick ass)

I also have astigmatism and it is a lot worse in one eye than the other. I recently had an eye exam and they suggested contacts because i do have glasses and they don’t seem to help at all. My vision isn’t that bad though, i just can’t see things from a distance very well. How much do your lenses cost and how long do they last?
