Confusion's One Workout per Week Log

Nice work and I didn’t know that about Lundgren. Lundgren is a smart, giant, warrior. He’s an impressive person.

Thanks GV. you,re smart and a warrior with the iron and big,but not a giant. lol

Today’s Workout:Time in gym A bit over an hour. Attitude=positive!
Leg Press:90x8,180x5,270x3,360x3,450x9
Pullups alternated with ab machine 10 sets of 5
Weighted Dips alternated with Military Press. Dips+12.5kgx3, MP 40kgx5,Dips+12.5kgx5,MP 50kgx5,Dips+12.5kgx6
Overhead dumbbell Extension(2 hands,1 dumbbell). Run up the rack doing 3 reps with each weight. Started at 2.5kg finished at 37.5kg.

Was fatigued from another long work week, but, whatever! Lower back was a bit tight from last workout.(My form on my last deadlift rep sucked, I got sloppy),so I decided to wait a week to do them again and also thought squats might not be the best idea for today’s workout. I planned to do another set of Military press, but some dude grabbed the power rack and I didn’t really care that much. The sets of pullups sucked, but I took VelvetElvis’ advice and hope to get a good benefit from them. There was a picture of Dorian Yates on the wall in front of the chinup bar and that helped motivate me! Watched One in the Chamber last night and was really impressed with how Dolph Lundgren looked for his age. My wife google searched him and he is actually very smart(masters degree in chemical engineering) and a martial artist. I wanna be like him. He’s a tall guy with brains. lol. Confusion [/quote]

Nice work man … Workout looks solid

I wouldn’t stress over the squats … Great exercise, but you should be fine incorporating leg press and deadlifts …

I’m rooting for you to prove me wrong! Keep it up …

Thanks VelvetElvis. I really hate squats.I can reach past my toes and touch touch my palms to the ground, but I have trouble getting past parallel in the squat position, even without weight on the bar. obviously, this will be corrected with time and practice, but…Thanks for the encouragement also. How good do I have to get to get to prove you wrong? lol

Sounds like a hip flexibility issue. You can hinge to touch the floor, but once you bend both knees and hips the all sorts of stretching happens in the quads, hams, glutes and back.

Less backtalk to your yoga instructor and more downward dog. Granted some people do not have the structure/mechanics to do certain stretches/postures. Knew a guy who could only turn his neck about 15 degrees from center to either side. He moved like Michael Keaton’s Batman.

Thanks for the tip Crushed. I just got busted for my flipant attitude toward yoga. lmao

Even though a bunch of yoga may not be great for a lifter or most people some yoga is the basis for all stretching…just saying. I used to do yoga all the time after lifting and between lifting to loosen up but I greatly prefer rolling with my torture devices for much more effective mobility work.

Thanks for the tip GV. I used to do a lot of martial arts and yoga type stretching including sun salutaions in the morning.lol.have gotten away from it,but will bring them back out of the archives. i always feel great after stretching…what sort of rolloing device would you recommend for someone like me?

I love the black foam roller or a rumble roller. I would also suggest getting a lacrosse ball for rolling hammies and back work leaning against a wall. I use the LAX ball for deltoid rolling as well as biceps rolling against the wall. A good 3 ft long black foam roller should run about $30 and an LAX ball is about $3.
I’ve done my share of Sun Salutations in the past too.

Thanks GV. i will check into that when i get home.

Damn wish I knew of this training once a week back in college days, or even just proper lifting in general.

Alexus, who sometimes haunts TNation is a big believer in plate front loaded squats, if you want to give them a try. Apparently no one really likes doing them except her, lol. She built herself up from a bad car (if memory serves me) accident.

Thanks minimal. i will see if i can find her:)

The rumble roller is a whole other kind of pain. Unfortunately I can only take a few passes with it, but it does its job. Plus it leaves all sort of weird marks on my back like I got run over by a lawn aerator (dermatographia is a PITA).

Is front loading like Goblet?

Self massage, when i had a shoulder issue i appreciated a homemade foam roller from a camping (about half inch) foam mattress designed to isolate us from humidity and add a bit of cushion. Months back i bought a “the stick” i think it is made in the USA. They have about 12 models short, medium, long(your kind) in 3 stifness (soft would not suit you).

The cool thing is that it bends to fallow our curves. We might not feel better after using it but we might forget to use it the next day so in a few hours the results do kick in. Since we apply the pressure it is kind of an idiots tool mine and who knows maybe yours. A bit pricy but really long lasting. Their site has videos and also you tub.

Yeah they are like goblet squats, maybe those might be better. Hard to say as I’m certainly no expert in squatting advice.

But if you are sitting a lot from driving, I’d say you might just have tight hip flexors and tight other things.

Incredibly,i had never thought,of that. Thanks for pointing it out.i will try the stretches I know and see if that does the trick. If not, will do a google search…

I use an hybrid bike daily 365, even in minus 40 or a foot of snow(30cm) for the last 14 years (no car). It is fast and cheap but streets and bike paths are unsafe so last august i bought a stationairy recumbant and love it. It offers a better neck position than any other bike. It seems they have a bad reputation because 300 pounders use them in gym with a burrito bag. I only had 10 pounds to loose so it is funny the wide handles that come with it (i just did not screw them on). I use it for incline presses and facepulls(forehead on seat, knee on floor). Well tiny area ask for creativity but the open window and the potantial to train at any hour is a good trade from the good gym close by.

Just checking in.

Weighted dips are an awesome workout.

Keep up the hard work.

BHappy, you must be really fit with all that bike riding! a hybrid is a motorized bicycle? it,s only a 5 minute drive to the 24 hour gym near me,or i can walk. plus they gave me a discount because I dont go everyday.
