Concept 2 Rower for Cardio?

I have been weight training for many years, until, this year, when for a variety of reasons (my health and others health)I have been unable to lift a weight or do any cardio other than a short walk, for the last 6 months.

My diet went to shit and while I didnt gain a whole lot of weight (10 lbs)…I sure did get flabby.

That is all behind me now. I’ve been hitting the weights good for a week and a half and my overall outlook has brightened.

My problem is I despise cardio of any kind. I know that it would accelerate my fat loss and at 47 yrs of age, my heart would thank me.
I enjoy seated and upright rows and almost any other type of weighted exercise with rowing motions.

Would a Concept 2 rower be a good cardio workout? Has anyone here used one or own one?

Most definitely.

I broke down and bought one because, like you, I hate cardio. This is the only thing I “enjoy” enough to regularly do.

Rowing for cardio is a double bonus, you get a major cardio plus a leg and upper body workout. The really great thing is the intensity is totally up to you. Take it slow at first and work form, then pug in the tunes and let it rip. Have a blast bro.

As a college rower, I can attest to the benefits of the ergometer. However I’d suggest you watch some videos to get proper form right. I’ve seen maybe three non-rowers use proper form, and countless people flail on the machine. Also, I wouldn’t consider erging “fun” in any sense, but whatever floats your boat (or erg).
