One thing that kind of pisses me off is the guys who are legitimately stronger than I am, but during their workout they don’t even try. And instead of being silent and ignoring me, or encouraging, they straight up talk shit because they are more experienced or stronger. It would be nice if some of the veteran lifters were more supportive or even neutral in their attitudes towards new guys.
I am squatting 205x5 for a number of sets and this is a new PR for me, so I am pumped up and shit. Some cat is doing 365 next to me like its nothing. Good on him, but he comes over to me and tells me I need to use more weight because I am being a bitch. Wow. Talk about a douschebag. I add 10 lbs a week to my goddamn squat and deadlift, and I never downtalk anyone else for working at max effort. Everyone starts somewhere.
Fuck those people, you shouldn’t even give a shit. I’d give some tip for something to say to them, or a technique to ignore them, but just fuck 'em all together.
ssc who is that guy in your avator?
hes some gang leader who died in jail but what was his name? and what was the name of his gang?
the crips or something?

tookie williams, was executed a couple of years ago, leader of the crips…also seemed to be a stand up guy with the work that he was doing through jail, check out the movie redemption
I don’t give a shit what other people do in the gym because I’m an adult and I have my own shit to worry about.

Yup, and got supremely fucked-over by everyone’s favorite Governator. It’s funny, he invented his gang as a way to keep his streets violence-free.

Thankfully, I can out-lift this wanker in the bench and squat, which is what matters, but my brother can’t, not YET, soon though.

Ok,ok.
Well, for out football team, we have a record board showing the maxes for certain positions. So, for us, it’s always a competition. Actually makes it more fun that way. Having the second highest clean really makes me want to get first. I know I should train as hard as possible every time, but this makes it more fun.

Kill four people in cold blood, brag about it, invent modern Southern California gang culture, get caught, deny you did it, get convicted, convince liberal Hollywood you’ve reformed, have huge arms, convince message board genius you are worth idolizing.
Don’t let the facts get in the way of a cool avatar.

Oh yeah, I idolize him. I remember saying that in an earlier post. ? Next time, read the posts correctly and you’ll see I wasn’t the one to say he was a stand-up guy.
For one, I am against the death penalty. For two, the work that this man did to try and redeem himself granted him a Nobel Peace Prize nominee. If a person isn’t willing to give someone a second chance through decades of maturation and recognition of his past evils, then that person is probably a piece of shit. It’s not like I said I wish this guy was my fucking dad. Wow.

dude I know exactly what you mean. my bro hasn’t lifted for almost a year, and he’s getting ready for the Marines (leaving August 17th with his bud). I’m in better shape than he is overall, but he’s still strong as shit for not doing anything. he’s cool with how much I do, and vise versa, but there’s always that fucking douche in the gym that critiques you on every fucking move you make.
When people tell me I’m training wrong I say “yes, I know” and when they ask why I say “because I’m trying to hurt myself but I just keep getting bigger and stronger.”
Sure it’s childish, and yes I certainly like to think I’m above such things,… still… when some young kid is strutting down the street in his wife beater, elbows flared outwards at 90 degree angles, chest all puffed out, and he passes me wearing a ‘normal’ shirt and realizes I’ve got at least 50 lbs of muscle on his scrawny ass… yeah, I do get a good feeling (I’m an adult and I can admit it! -lol).

I’m surprised to read that some people get unwanted ‘tips’ from people in the gym. I guess I must be in a good gym, as most of the people I’ve tried to talk to have been pleasant people who can have a laugh and are obviously dedicated to building/keeping a decent size.
all ill say is i wish i was in your gym!
[quote]thosebananas wrote:

just lucky i guess!
i find that the people who are most likely to give free unwanted/useless advice are those who haven’t achieved much and don’t realise they’re talking shit
if they’re giving bad advice they won’t be progressing themselves, so it’s their loss
is yours a serious gym?

I wish he was my dad. My dad could never grow an afro like that.
If your reading this dad, you know I’m right.
I compete with other people in the gym, I think most do even if they say they don’t. You can’t help but look at someone and think in the back of your mind ‘I’m going to work harder then him and get bigger then him’ its something that helps keep me motivated. I want to be better then everyone in the gym.
Thats why people like to go to hardcore gyms, you have people who are much stronger and bigger then you that really push you to get better. You see them working their ass of and wont to work even harder.
I compete with this douchebag at the gym. I’m going to be 10lbs heavier than him, and all my measurements will be at least 1" larger. Of course, I refer to myself.

You would love my gym. Especially the incoming sophomore class. Twiggy is an understatement. “yeah bro we’ll be ripped by the time we can squat a plate and 25”. Says nerdbag who quarter squats plates. I want to throw a 45 like a frisbee at these guys sometimes. We also have like 6 guys who just bench and curl, and use the squatrack for curls and abs.

High school gyms are just a sad reminder of how bad it gets in the real world.
