Sure, 20-30 years ago I suppose. Jim Rhodes’ character is in his late 20’s, early 30’s.

No worries with your friend…this set comes with all the variants in one case (because Giant Man is so big that it takes ten figures to complete him.)
We’re on different sides on the “take 'em out of the box?” divide, though: I take the figures out of the plastic and display them.
I actually got the cardboard standee from the Ultimate Avengers DVD which has a three shelf bookcase-type deal. It’s the perfect size for the figures and looks very cool in my living room.

Ah yes, if I were a bachelor and had the house I have now (fat chance), one room would indeed be devoted to displaying my wares in all their glorious geekiness. I’d probably go crazy with the pegboard, and it would look like a comic/toy shop with proper shelving for the comic long boxes, of course.
As far as taking them out of the packaging goes, to each his own. I like seeing finely detailed figures displayed out of packaging, but I like keeping them a marketable commodity even more. I know I’ll never get back what I paid for them (with the exception of a few rare collector’s club gems), but it beats having to relegate them to the Goodwill pile should times ever call for it.

He also might be talking about Deathlock, another semi-cool, semi-robot assassin.
Right, but not a bounty hunter (this, to me, was the giveaway). Although, one comic geek to another, I sincerely salute your reference skills.
I always thought Deathlok was a damn cool character, but for some reason he never made the A-list in the Marvel lineup. Any thoughts on why?
I was actually discussing this with the owner of th comic shop I work at part-time; we came to the conclusion that Deathlock was mostly cool because he was cool looking, not cuz of the great story behind him.
His Marvel Legend action figure was great, even though I only bought him to put together my Galactus.
So you collect toys, too? My brother!
Hells to the yeah, I collect toys.
Mostly Marvel Legends…been trying to put together the Avengers for a while, but as you probably know, Thor’s a bit tough to find. Snagged Hawkeye and Vision at the New York Con for decent prices, though.
Gonna get the whole set of the Giant-Man wave.
Must…get…Sentry…variant…
Also pick up bad guys here and there from the Spidey line. Found a Hobgoblin that fucking rules and a friend of mine came across a Hydro-Man in a drug store and bought it for me. Now I need the Shocker.

Judge Dread, but do it properly, the Cursed Earth story was amazing, the stallone vehicle was very poor
I would love to see another Dredd movie. I even actually liked the first one; not that I thought it was a “good movie”, just entertaining. The story behind the Dredd universe has potential to make a great movie.
I liked the movie right up to the point were he takes of his helmet. Actually it was fun enough to watch but it was a million miles away from capturing the JD vibe. I also thought Armand Assante stole the show as Rico and Max Von Sydow was great as Fargo. The Hammerstein robot and Mean Angel were pretty cool too.
But changing the uniforms and making the bikes fly etc. was just a sell out, the only thing that linked the movie to the comics was the names of the characters and the plot being loosley based on the Judda storyline. And the love interest between Dredd and Hershey? Give me a break!
There were/are plans for 2 new movies to be made, proper movies this time with accurate uniforms and the helmet stays ON. The plots involved the dark judges and had major parts for Anderson and Hershey.
According to internet sources the movie is in pre-production but I have it on fairly good authority (I know a 2000AD artist) that the films have been binned. However Rebellion who now own 2000AD are growing at an amazing rate so I wouldnt be surprised if a film eventually gets made.
Theres a wealth of good characters from 2000AD that would make great movies; Dredd, Slaine, ABC Warriors, Robo-hunter, Strontium Dogs etc. Even the weirder stuff like Bix Barton could be made to work.[/quote]
Can’t understand why more movies haven’t been made, current graphics tech can make all of it possible, the Muties from strontium dogg would be easy etc
if you haven’t checked out the early dredd stuff the cursed earth saga was wild, i vote Tommy Lee plays spikes harvey rotten.

Nope, the guy in “40 years old virgin” does that and he gets some at the end of the movie. There’s hope for him yet.

LOL! Surprisingly enough, when I started collecting action figures/comics in my early 20’s and my collection was small enough to keep in my house, it actually scored me some points with the girls I dated. I’m not saying it “turned them on” or anything, but it helped to break a lot of preconceptions they might have had about dating a bodybuilder. It demonstarted that 1) I still had a child-like (not childish) imagination, and 2) I had a hobby besides working out and buying supplements.
Hell, one of them even married me! Truth is stranger than fiction, gentlemen.

And a nice try it was, but except for a few good phantomish comments, it was pretty off the big, mysterious, illusional, smart-ass and intimidating character I’m familar with. Although, I wonder why did all older hero writers want their hero in tight clothes and their underwear outside their pants?

It was a common look for circus strongmen and acrobats in the first half of the 20th century. There are shots of a couple performers whose costumes look almost exactly like the first renditon of Superman’s, for example.
It was considered indecent to have people wearing tights (necessary for safety in aerial acrobatics) without a second, thicker layer to hide their crotch. So ‘underwear’ outside the tights… bearing in mind that at the time, underwear looked nothing like that. It had an entirely different connotation. ![]()

Good points about ‘breaking the misconceptions’

So granny panties where part of a safe acrobat’s outfit? Gees, who knew?
Interesting to know, though. But I’d be more interested to know how you came about that bit of information.
And for the records, Zane’s rendition of the Phantom is worth a swift kick in the ass. The plot was lousy, and the actors weren’t able to bring the drama of there characters out.
That’s one movie that would deserve to have a second chance, the comics are pretty cool and I enjoyed quite a few. My local library has 2 compendia of the first comic strips.
Speaking of comics strips, one that’s relatively unknown to us is Prince Valiant. Although the Errol Flynn movies sucked, the character in itself is interesting. A movie based on Hal Foster’s original work would do quite well as an animation movie, IMHO.
not exactly comics but i think that David Gemmel’s books would make great hero movies

That actually looked pretty cool. I won’t lie, I had the video game, watched the cartoon and at least two of the movies before I was too old to get away with it. It probably never should have been live action in the first place.
