Sweet tits. I already discussed my love of the Turtles in the comic book thread. I actually liked the first live-action movie, before they got way too cheesy with the second and third movies.

Yup, I dun said earlier that another turtles movie done properly would be cool.
The intro looks like the beginning of the first graphic novel from eastman & laird. If they can stick to that then this should be a sweet ass movie.

I’m an illustrator. Working on Superman is something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid.
I probably know more about the character than what would be considered healthy.
I’ve seen photos of some of the circus outfits that inspired Shuster’s original sketches, and he’s admitted to useing the old-time strongmen as the inspiration for the physique of the character. Given the early depictions, and how very popular John Grimek was at the time (being the model for Tarzan images, along with many statues across the USA), chances are pretty good that Grimek was one of the major influences in that regard.
So if you ever want to know what the original artist pictured Superman as looking like, whether it’s the Metrosexual of steel or a muscleman, just take a second look at the premier strongman of the era. ![]()

I guess that settles that. My guess is, we still get someone asking why Superman has to be muscular.

On my off days, I just want to bitchslap anyone stupid enough to ask that damned question. They’ve got no problem with a guy who’s faster than a speeding bullet and more powerful than a loco-goddamned-motive… but they think his being muscular is unrealistic?
Here’s a pat answer for them: Super-advanced society genetically engineers its population for optimum intelligence and physical ability, allowing them to stay fit and trim in spite of disdain for physical labour of any kind. Said genetic specimen then lands on a Kansas farm where he’s fed good, old-fashioned, down-home farm cooking and engages in hard physical labour throughout his formative years – his powers developing slowly over a period over a period of a decade and a half.
Perfect genetics. Lots of good, wholesome food. Hard work.
And if they don’t like that answer, kick 'em in the junk and take their wallet.
So, the latest terrifying rumor is that an offer has gone out to Heath Ledger to play The Joker in the next Batman flick.
Heath motherfucking Brokeback Ledger?
Anyone else just agog with stupidity and furious indignation about this?
(And for the record, not less than 45 minutes after viewing Batman Begins, I cast the part perfectly: Adrian Brody.

I was really hoping for Mark Hammil. He already does the voice well on the cartoon and it would ahve been cool to see if he could act. Hollywood fucks things up once they realize a concept can make a load of money. I think they were surprised at how well the last one did. Hopefully, Bale or Morgan Freeman won’t sell out.

I still think the best choice I’ve heard yet is Paul Bettany, from The Da Vinci Code, Wimbledon (no I didn’t see the movie, just know he’s in it, lol), and, ironically enough (considering Ledger was mentioned) A Knight’s Tale. That guy just looks like the Joker, even without the makeup. He’s got those crazy-ass looking eyes…
Thought this was fitting, considering people around here were recently commenting that the first Batman movie should have been called “The Joker”:
New Batman Called “The Joker”?
Speaking in an interview with Turner Classic Movies, Sir Michael Caine got on the subject of the work he was doing with director Christopher Nolan and mentioned offhand that he’d be making “The Joker” next year:
I wanted to work with him and then Christopher Nolan who directed Batman is doing a smaller film called The Prestige about magicians and it's very interesting. And we're going to make The Joker next year.

Adrian Brody would have been great. So will Heath Ledger. Hell, even Andrew “Boner” Koenig was a great Joker.
harris447 I love your input on comics. You know your comics, better than me. But if Heath wasn’t in Brokeback, would he be an OK choice?
You know, Bale nailed Ewan McGregor in Velvet Goldmine. So Batman is Christian
motherfucking
Goldmine Bale and he nailed Ewan “Obi-Wan” McGregor.
Batman is gay, Batman is a homo!!! No wait, he is played by an actor that once played a gay guy. Same as Heath.
Also, maybe Brody was already booked on an other movie. Maybe he didn’t want the role. Maybe he cost too much. We don’t know.
THe best comic to movie would be the kingdom come comic. That would just be amazing to see the characters of old going to war with each other.
That and also I would love to see the knight fall comic done. Just to see some real justice to Bane. I mean common on he is one, if not the only man to defeat batman and in the movie they made him a brainless servant. BAne is fucking awesome and should be done just to.

Nah, has nothing to do with Brokeback, per se.
I liked the flick and thought heath was great in it.
Just channeling my inner Ari Gold.
(I didn’t think it came off as homophobic. I might be the last guy on this site you could accuse o that. If it did, then my fault.)
But I still think Heath Ledger blows donkeys in your mother’s backyard.

While I would tend to agree with you (I love the Knightfall storyline), I think general audiences would have a hard time swallowing the whole Jean Paul Valley/Azrael thing. Plus, if they really wanted to do the storyline justice, they’d have to reintroduce Robin, do the whole Robin getting older and turning into Nightwing, Bats finding a new Robin and the new Robin and Nightwing taking down Valley together…it would be a huge mess and would take years to do it right (not to mention several movies).
All that being said, Azrael was one of my favorite characters of all time.

Sorry, I just got back from an evening of talking comics, and drinking a few beers. There was a lively debate in which Brokeback was used interchangeably with a few more blue terms as the sole reason why Heath would be a bad Joker.
So I get home, login and see “Brokeback” used again against a casting choice, I overact and place the wrong emphasis on what you said.
I guess we do not have to debate if he should be the Joker. He is, but come 2008, we can debate if he was any good at it. He’s not my first choice, but I don’t think he will suck.
