Comics to Movies

Judge Dread, but do it properly, the Cursed Earth story was amazing, the stallone vehicle was very poor

Or from the same comic 2000ad the ABC warriors have loads of attributes that would work well on film

I keep thinking Tom Selleck has the look to play Tony Stark best, although hes probably a little old

How about Matt Dillon? Though he does look cheesy with a mustache (was that Something about Mary?)

Perhaps Aaron Eckhart?

I actually like that idea. He has been in many movies from The Mummy to Resident Evil 2.
Was he in both Mummy movies? If yes and it’s the guy that I’m thinking about, I can easily see him play Tony Stark.

Yes he was. He was the one in black with the face “tattoos”, I just don’t remember the chararcter’s name. I can see him doing a good Tony Stark.

I wonder who would be a good Jim Rhodes.

Yeah me too! May 2008 is the release date for that one.

another comic site!!!

Who would make a good Tony Stark though?

He’s got to be some mix of like Remington Steel, James Bond, Bruce Wayne (without the dark side/with alcoholism).

Matt Damon could pull it off well.
WITHOUT the alcoholism? Tony Stark is the most famous drunk in all of comicdom!

IM has always been drawn to look like an actor, more than any other character. For years, he looked like Errol Flynn. Recently, he’s always looked like Timothy Dalton, except for a brief period when Tom Cruise was flirting with playing him.

That would be cool if they get him or somebody who looks like him. I do remember reading that the producers were hoping to find somebody new just like they did for Superman Returns…

I just hope they don’t choose a youngster that still has zits…

Come on, man, that says, “WITH alcoholism”.

I would love to see another Dredd movie. I even actually liked the first one; not that I thought it was a “good movie”, just entertaining. The story behind the Dredd universe has potential to make a great movie.

That is an idea I can get behind. Also he probably wouldn’t eat at the budget so more $ for effects.

ironman did not wear underwear.

Yup. Read it wrong. Sorry.

My knee-jerk reaction was Wesley Snipes just because of his build, even though he is a tad short. But then a tenth of a second later I regained my sanity and remembered he already plays another Marvel character. Derrrrr…

Denzel is too old/skinny, although facially he seems passable.

Maybe Treach from Naughty by Nature? He is one jacked mofo and not a bad actor, either. What was that movie where he played a hit man?

If anyone says Mario Van Peebles, we’re throwing down. Besides, he already played Solo.

All I hope for is that they use the song “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath.
Second! That would be bad-ass if it was saved for just the right moment. Say, for instance, he got his ass handed to him in round 1 with the Mandarin, he goes back to Stark International, supes up the armor over a period of weeks, and steps out of some dry-ice smoke filled chamber with the newer, more kick ass duds on to go make lo mein out of said villain.

And they should keep it the un-fooled-around-with original version, not a shitty remake by Evanescence or some other “feel my tortured soul cry out” band.

Of course, now that I think about it, you could probably only use the guitar solo, seeing as how the lyrics are about Iron Man slaughtering people; not a really good soundtrack for a hero.

He also might be talking about Deathlock, another semi-cool, semi-robot assassin.

Right, but not a bounty hunter (this, to me, was the giveaway). Although, one comic geek to another, I sincerely salute your reference skills.

I always thought Deathlok was a damn cool character, but for some reason he never made the A-list in the Marvel lineup. Any thoughts on why?

I was actually discussing this with the owner of th comic shop I work at part-time; we came to the conclusion that Deathlock was mostly cool because he was cool looking, not cuz of the great story behind him.

His Marvel Legend action figure was great, even though I only bought him to put together my Galactus.
So you collect toys, too? My brother!

Hells to the yeah, I collect toys.

Mostly Marvel Legends…been trying to put together the Avengers for a while, but as you probably know, Thor’s a bit tough to find. Snagged Hawkeye and Vision at the New York Con for decent prices, though.

Gonna get the whole set of the Giant-Man wave.

Must…get…Sentry…variant…

Also pick up bad guys here and there from the Spidey line. Found a Hobgoblin that fucking rules and a friend of mine came across a Hydro-Man in a drug store and bought it for me. Now I need the Shocker.

I liked the movie right up to the point were he takes of his helmet. Actually it was fun enough to watch but it was a million miles away from capturing the JD vibe. I also thought Armand Assante stole the show as Rico and Max Von Sydow was great as Fargo. The Hammerstein robot and Mean Angel were pretty cool too.

But changing the uniforms and making the bikes fly etc. was just a sell out, the only thing that linked the movie to the comics was the names of the characters and the plot being loosley based on the Judda storyline. And the love interest between Dredd and Hershey? Give me a break!

There were/are plans for 2 new movies to be made, proper movies this time with accurate uniforms and the helmet stays ON. The plots involved the dark judges and had major parts for Anderson and Hershey.

According to internet sources the movie is in pre-production but I have it on fairly good authority (I know a 2000AD artist) that the films have been binned. However Rebellion who now own 2000AD are growing at an amazing rate so I wouldnt be surprised if a film eventually gets made.

Theres a wealth of good characters from 2000AD that would make great movies; Dredd, Slaine, ABC Warriors, Robo-hunter, Strontium Dogs etc. Even the weirder stuff like Bix Barton could be made to work.

So, you need the Sentry variant, huh? I’ve got a friend (well, a friendly aquaintance) that owns a small a comic/toy dealership down here in Oldsmar. Want me to ask on pricing?

The last figure I think I purchased was a rather rare Doc Ock from the Spiderman 2 line. It was going for $25 at my local hobby store before the movie came out, and I found it a few weeks later (summer, 2004) at a Walgreens for like $8-9. Don’t you just love making finds like that?

Man, I love the Marvel Legends line, but they came out just as I stopped collecting hardcore (out of money, out of mind, you know; even more so with a newborn in the house now).

sigh I guess I’ll just have to be satisfied with what I’ve got; a few hundred Toy Biz and Spawn action figures, NIP. Have to keep them in climate controlled storage, as the Missus just was just not feeling them taking up the dining room table and spare futon.

I will be happy to post pics, just give me time to get over there to shoot them and set up, as they are stacked for efficiency of space, not display. Shit, I pay enough to store them, might as well show them off whenever I get the chance. If interested, I’ll start a new thread for it.

If I should ever have to get rid of them, I’m always keeping my comics, as that is my first love and the reason I got into the toys in the first place.

moon knight is as dark as the punisher. and the punisher movie was so so…i have a feeling they wouldn’t be able to do moon knight movie any justice.

No worries with your friend…this set comes with all the variants in one case (because Giant Man is so big that it takes ten figures to complete him.)

We’re on different sides on the “take 'em out of the box?” divide, though: I take the figures out of the plastic and display them.

I actually got the cardboard standee from the Ultimate Avengers DVD which has a three shelf bookcase-type deal. It’s the perfect size for the figures and looks very cool in my living room.

Oh, and as far as James Rhodes goes: Carl fucking Weathers.
