Colored Contacts

I don´t really get how using contacts instead of glasses isn´t vain, but coloring the contacts is.

Years ago I tried them and found grey a better alternative to to blue to cover the natural brown - but it still looked wierd.

They remind me of cataracts.

Vision contacts are a practical alternative to bulky, fragile glasses (which restrict your peripheral vision, making them potentially hazardous).

Coloured contacts are (as far as I’m aware) not designed to improve your sight, but only to alter your image.

So, practical and safe, Vs pointless and vain. But that’s my opinion.

Where do you get the idea that colored contacts are not designed to improve your sight?

OP–I never had any problems when I wore colored lenses (though that was like 10 years ago). They were just as comfortable as my regular ones. As far as looking natural, mine were not far off from my real color (blue to aqua) so I don’t know how brown to blue would look.

Give them a try and see if you like them. That said, I kind of started feeling like a tool while I wore them, and once they were used up I never bought more.

I have some Nike Maxsight amber tinted contacts. They increase contrast, improve my vision, eliminate glare, filter out UVA and freak out my girlfriend. They are like wearing sunglasses without wearing sunglasses.

That is pretty damn cool. Do they make a substantial difference?[/quote]

I bought them to wear on the shooting range. I got the increased contrast I was looking for. But I got some strange looks if I went anywhere afterwards. On my eyes, the contact was bigger than my iris, so I had an orange halo around black iris. I looked alien.

I think for a pro it may give the extra edge in competition and it would be worth the hassle of swapping the contacts before and after using. For me, a recreational user, not so much.

I should note that the manufacturer (Bausch & Lomb) has discontinued the line, though they can still be found online.
