Also, if you say Florida should make it to the BCS champs because they’ve been playing so well as of late and only has one loss, hasn’t OU been doing the same thing since their TX loss? If you’re gonna apply a rule then apply the rule. You can’t pick and choose who it applies to.[/quote]

I don’t think that is the complete rule people are following for saying Florida should make it to the national championship game, or it is at least leaving out a major assumption.

Most people think that if Florida actually wins the SEC title game while having only one loss that they should go to the national championship game. Extracting and applying a rule from that would leave no double standard for an OU/Texas/TTU team that did not win its own conference.

That being said, the interesting scenario you pointed out could happen - two teams from one conference playing for the national championship. I really think it needs to be part of the BCS rules that you have to win your conference to play in the national championship game.

Why should #1 and #2 from a conference have to play when we already know, by definition of the conference rules, who #1 and #2 are?

I think things will work themselves out here. There is some crazy football left. I also think the BCS has gotten it right most years. The biggest problem I’ve seen was the 13-0 Auburn team. If you go undefeated in a BCS conference, I think you deserve a shot.

I have seen the BCS produce nothing so far that a +1 playoff system would not solve if we’re looking for who should be the national champion. And note that we do have a playoff system now - a playoff of 2 teams. Before we did not even have that.

well not the new BCS standings change EVERYTHING, Texas is the new no.2 not OU. Last two weeks are gonna be interesting, and heres an interesting point, if OU loses and bama and Florida both lose one game, who gets into the title game, USC or Utah?

I’ve been saying don’t count Utah out of it yet, and if it comes down to that last scenerio do they get in?

  1. Alabama 11-0
  2. Texas 10-1
  3. Oklahoma 10-1
  4. Florida 10-1
  5. USC 9-1
  6. Utah 12-0
  7. Texas Tech 10-1
  8. Penn State 11-1
  9. Boise State 11-0
  10. Ohio State 10-2
  11. Georgia 9-2
  12. Oklahoma State 9-2
  13. Missouri 9-2
  14. TCU 10-2
  15. Ball State 11-0
  16. Cincinnati 9-2
  17. Oregon State 8-3
  18. BYU 10-2
  19. Michigan State 9-3
  20. Florida State 8-3
  21. Boston College
  22. Georgia Tech 8-3
  23. Oregon 8-3
  24. Northwestern 9-3
  25. Pitt 7-3

Are you fucking kidding me? Texas and Oklahoma are both still ahead of Florida in the BCS? What a fucking crock… considering Florida has #2 or higher in almost every single vote in the Harris and Coach’s poll.

Either way, whoever wins the SEC is guaranteed a spot in the National Championship.

haha, Oklahoma jumped Texas in the USA Today and AP polls. It’s gotta suck to be looking up to the team you beat…by 10…on a neutral field. I feel real bad for Texas now.

Hey, it’s a race and I finished first.

I wonder if the BCS weighs more heavily against Fla since they lost at home this year. Otherwise, you’re right. It’s hard to separate those one loss teams.

On a sidenote, we had a record breaking 93 point game this weekend.

I wouldn’t worry too much about where Florida is ranked. They still control their destiny and if they win out, they’ll be in the title game.

I called it. But I should have said, Oklahoma will destroy Texas Tech!

Here’s a scenario for ya. Florida loses their next game (not likely but possible). They’re still second place in the SEC and will likely play Bama for the SEC champs. They beat Bama but don’t earn enough points for the BCS champs. Would that not put TX and OU in the title game, even if OU wins out and doesn’t make the Big 12 south cut? Crazy! It’s too close to call right now.

Now, at the beginning of the season, I predicted (even on this thread) that it would be UF vs. USC for the BCS game.

Ironically, there is still a chance that could happen.

If Florida wins out, and they are in.

If OU losses to Oklahoma State, they get knocked out. If TT loses, they are out. Then, Texas goes to the Big 12 Game and loses to Mizzou, that would knock them out and move USC up! Now, that is not too likely to happen, but the possibility is there.

As long as Florida does what they need to do against FSU and Alabama, they should be playing Texas or Oklahoma for the BCS. But there’s a lot of football left, so we’ll have to see what happens that first weekend in December.

The national championship is interesting enough. But the real travesty here is that TCU wins 10 games and will probably end up playing a 7 win Pac 10 team in a pre Christmas bowl. Anothe rumor has us playing Rice in our home stadium.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

But I don’t think ANYONE saw that kind of beat down happening.

Yeah, I was thinking, “No matter who wins, it won’t be an upset.” But, well…that was an upset. Now if the OU team that played Saturday will just play the rest of the season…

Here is a scenario -

Let’s say Tech, for whatever reason, decides to lose to Baylor Saturday, and tu and Norman both win.

That puts tu in the Big 12 Championship game, and in all likelihood, the BCS game.

OR -

Norman loses in Stillwater (very high possibility). That puts Tech in the Big 12 game, with both OU and tu watching.

The pollsters will not allow Tech to go to the BCS game, so what does that do to the National CHampionship picture?

We need a playoff system, and we need it before 2014.

If OU lost and Tech went to the B12 championship game and won, why would they not be in the national championship game.

Utah is undefeated with wins over traditional power Michigan in their house and 2 teams that were ranked. Tjey also beat OSU who beat USC. Why don’t they get to play for the national championship over these teams with a loss?

I love the fact that OU’s win over TCU may be the tie breaker.

We need a playoff!!!

Because, just like TCU, Tech doesn’t get the love they deserve. Hell, I wish we could trade Baylor for TCU in the Big-12 south. What an awesome mess that would be. Can you imagine some kind of a 4 way tie? No disrepect for Missouri, but the top two teams in the Big 12 regardless of division should be playing in the chapionship game. Of course, that is still not a good solution to this mess, but it is a better one.

Agreed big time on the playoff!!! Even Stoops, who has always been against one, seems to be coming around this year. Imagine that.

The Big 12 has been the closest thing to a playoff in college football I’ve ever seen this year. They’ve battered and bruised each other pretty good and now it’s a mess because no one else in the country is participating in the Big 12 playoff. LOL.

I wouldn’t mind being in the Big 12 at all.

I agree it’s time for a playoff. I want 64 teams, just like basketball and baseball. All the conference champs, then at large bids. The home games could be determined by RPI, and some other criteria, like baseball. Cut the season down to 10 weeks. 8 conference games. One game for a high profile matchup, and one for a local rivalry or maybe a service academy game. Start the playoffs around thanksgiving, and crown a new champion around new years. Use the big bowls for the last few big games, use the rest of them like an NIT in basketball.

The love they deserve? This is college football, you get 1 close loss or you get no love whatsoever. Texas Tech got the shit kicked out of them by Oklahoma. TCU lost to Oklahoma and Utah.

What love are they not getting?

You are right, TCU didn’t do it on the field. If they’d beaten Utah I wouldn’t be cursing our bowl destinations. If they’d beaten Utah and OU would they be playing for a national championship? Why not? This is starting to change, but TCU has not gotten the respect they deserve because they are not part of the exclusionary bowl championship series.

Tech is another story. Frankly I think to get more respect they need to play a decent OOC schedule. The last decent team they played in OOC was TCU 2 years ago and that was a beatdown. As much as everyone talks about the mighty Big 12 and the mighty SEC who do any of them play in OOC? Even my beloved Bama has played a dissapointing Clemson, Tulane, Arkansas State, and the mighty Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky, what does beating them prove? The B12 and SEC play crap OOC then beat up on each other, what does that prove?
