Okalahoma with the upset tomorrow night!

That’s what I’m talkin about.

I have to freaking work tomorrow night so I don’t get to go…I even get into games for free! Disappointing.

I can’t go either. Mainly because the State of Oklahoma and I have an agreement: I won’t cross their state line, and they won’t throw me in jail.

Ha ha ha!

Well, it may be wishful thinking…or it may be the upset of the day!

What’s the line on the game? I don’t think it will be much of an upset, regardless who wins.

OU is like 525-2 at home, or some stupid number.

The Big 12 South is too tough this season. It is actually bad for the conference as it is entirely possible that the teams will cannibalize themselves out of a BCS shot.

I think Tech will win, but the mojo is falling apart on my end.

  • The last 3 weeks we have wither hosted, or attended a football game party. There are no plans for a party this week.

  • All of Tech’s big wins over the last 5 weeks have been preceded by my son’s football team totally thrashing their opponent on he Friday Night before Tech played. Tonight, my son’s team is only favored by 4 points.

  • I run the sound system for all of my son’s pep rallies, and I play the exact same song every week for their run out music. I was late for today’s pep rally, and they played a totally stupid song. Since I took over the sound duties, we have reeled off 7 straight victories with an average margin of over 50 points.

  • convoluted superstitions I know - but I am the Sparky Anderson of winning streaks.

I am feeling worse about Tech’s chances with each passing minute.

Phew, I’m glad I’m not the only one here who can single-handedly jinx a football team in another state. We’ve lost EVERY OU-texas game I’ve been to. The last three games I went to - OU lost. I try to stay away, for their sake and my sanity.

  1. The Big 12 could REALLY cannibalize itself with Mizzou pulling off the upset in the championship game. The SEC is much luckier in that regard. But what happens if Oklahoma wins tomorrow? That will really suck for the Big 12. Three teams that have an honest claim at a NC bid, and they have to draw friggin’ straws (essentially).

  2. I would seriously not discount Florida or Alabama against anybody. I have been saying that Alabama’s wins have not been that impressive, but they are young and undefeated, and, to me, it looks like they haven’t figured out how to lose yet.

I know that sounds crazy, but it’s the sense I got from watching them last week. I think we can all remember the OSU team that beat Miami a few years ago - style points aren’t all that matter.

  1. Where the hell did we get cute girls on here talking about football?

  2. And most importantly, good luck to rainjack & his son!

At least you all don’t have to get up at 4:00 am to see the game. I’m deployed so there is a 9 hour difference.

Now I just have to figure out if it is worth waking up that early to watch.

This is like the Texas game all over again. I don’t have a warm and fuzzy feeling about it.

Dustin

People that say Alabama can’t match up against Florida and/or Big 12 South teams don’t quite understand the game of football that well I have to say.

Does everyone not realize that Alabama does not throw the ball every down, or much less more than they run the ball. Alabama will shorten the game by running the ball, so (Insert Florida or Big 12 team here) will not have the ball so many times to score 60 points. Plus Bama’s defense is faster and more physical than any of the other teams any of those teams have faced this year.

Also just wondering if anyone has seen Bama’s o-line this year?? Does any Defensive line in the Big 12 come close to matching up? How exactly are these Big 12 teams built for pass defense going to respond to people lining up and running off tack every play??

That being said, I’m just gonna go ahead and say that OU-TT is not the biggest game of the year, but instead it is the SEC championship. Whoever wins the SEC will beat whoever they play in Miami.

Just some things to think about before you write off teams for not averaging 50 points a game.

OU is favored by 7, which surprised me. I’m not sure what the odds makers are basing this on. I guess because the game is in Norman?

OU is currently 59-2 under Stoops at home, but I don’t recall them playing a team ranked this high in Norman since beating #1 ranked Nebraska in 2000.

Tech just does not have the respect of the press, or anyone outside a 100 mile radius of Lubbock.

Give us 5-6 years as a top tier team, and maybe that will start to change - a little.

I hear you. It’s odd how those things do seem to hold true.

For some reason, whenever I have attended a Florida vs. Mississippi game (Ole Miss or Mississppi State), the Gators have lost. It happened this year, a few years ago and several years before that.

Good news for Texas Tech:

My son’s team won by 39 points, and there is a game party tonight.

If I were a Sooner fan, I would be very nervous right now.

That’s the thing! They are having a GREAT year so far. They still have a chance to make it to the BCS game (which would be a cool matchup against the Gators). But the fact that this is only one really good year is not enough to warrant the respect they want.

I agree that it’s going to take 5-6 years of them playing well and being a 9+ win team before they are taken seriously. Each year, there are several schools that play great and surprise everyone, but then they only have 1-2 good years and fall off the map (think Kansas, Mizzou, Hawaii recently).

Well, Corso picked OU. Congrats, Rainjack. We’re fucked.

I thought he was gonna shoot someone with that fuckin’ gun.

He picked Tech against tu - and we won. But then again, I have no freaking clue why Corso even has a job. I refuse to play my NCAA 2008 anymore because of him.

How’s that Rodriguez thing working out for Michigan?

As much as I’d like to smile and mock Michigan, I know that in two years I’ll have to be listening to all of the bitch-ass fans around here again, so… fuck Michigan.

Turning off the Corso feature is the best thing that EA has ever done for the college football games.

And my team actually won a physical football game today, kinda hopin we keep Swinney, just somethin bout him coachin down here, he actually doesn’t squat on the sidelines and look like he is takin a shit or crying like old TB, theres a fire in him.

Agreed. No reason not to give the guy a shot. A win against the chickens and a good showing in a bowl game and I would hope it would definitely be his job then. What would be worse would be to watch him go to another school and win. To not keep Swinney, I would hope they get some kind of guaranteed choice.

This really isn’t a bad post, and I’ve been saying the same things. Alabama is an extremely physical, big team. They have some of the largest linemen in the nation (biggest, I think,) and that means pummeling people into the ground.

Problem is, I don’t think Glen Coffee matches up against the linebacking corpse of Florida well. Not only that, but throw in an erratic performance by JPW (which wouldn’t be his first,) and you’ve got yourself a one-dimensional game. While I know it’s far too early to be looking ahead to the National Championship - I definitely fear TT’s (and TT alone) defense much more than Alabama. I’m not sure if the Tide’s secondary can keep up with Harvin, Ranney, Demps, and Murphy.

Again, even if they do, I’ll throw out Florida’s huge “X” factor: Special teams. No one beats them in special teams, and everyone gets beat by Florida on special teams.

I have good feelings about this team in Gainesville right now. We’ll see after the FSU game, though.

Gators will destroy FSU and Alabama. They are on a roll and as Urban Meyer has been saying “momentum” is the thing they try to establish early on each game. As long as they keep it up, they will destroy anyone in their path.

As expected, they destoryed the Citadel today. We had a good time in the Swamp and watching the Gators just do what they have been doing. Pearcy Harvin is just incredible to watch in person. Every time he touches the ball, it’s exciting.

And he’s surrounded by so many good players with Tebow, Demps, Rainey, Moody, Murphy and others.

SSC, ironically, Gators special teams wasn’t as good as they have been today. Brandon James had a touchdown on a punt return called back due to holding, he also fumbled the ball on one punt return, and he didn’t have any big runs on punt or kick-off returns this game. The Citadel played that one aspect of the game well on both sides of the ball (and that’s about all they did).

Doesn’t look good for TTU. At all. This is ugly.
