3 Georgia over 8 Alabama (great matchup, possible upset alert, but going with the Bulldogs at home in a tough game)
I’ll be at the Gator game and will have to check in on this tomorrow night to see how the above teams do.
How many Gator fans were crying? I did not get to see the game, but I have been checking the score. Miss scored 24 points in the 2nd half.
No crying. More disbelief than anything. And disappointment. Similar to a, “What the hell???”
What happened in this game
What happened!?? It was all my fault!!!
Yes. I take credit for the loss. You see, whenever I have attended an Ole Miss vs. Florida game, Florida loses. So yes, it is my fault. I don’t know what it is, but I can’t go to anymore Ole Miss/Florida games.
I’ll tell you what really happened:
1. The Gators Do Not Play Well During Early Games. Ever. They have had many close games (wins and losses - mostly losses to Ole Miss - when the game is early in the day). If the game starts before 1pm, look out! The Gators will struggle. It also explains some of the other tough games they’ve had in the past that were early in the day (Kentucky, Vanderbilt).
2. Fumbles/Turnovers - Several uncharacteristic turnovers in this game that normally don’t occur (including fumbles by Tebow). I think this happened because as of last weekend Florida was the only team in the entire NCAA without a turnover. They had to mess it up. If the commentors say something like that, then the opposite happens.
The next time they say that Tebow hasn’t thrown an interception in X-amount of completions, he will throw an interception. So I’m expecting this to happen in another game or two.
3. Not Stopping Big Plays - The Gators defense stopped the run all day, but they screwed up a couple big plays that led to Ole Miss touchdowns.
4. Non-dominant Offensive line - The Gators Offense did a bad job blocking for Tebow today. Two main players were injured as well.
5. Bad Play Calling - Dan Mullen (offensive coordinator) is far too conservative and he tries to run the same play over and over again even when it’s not working.
The worst play was the fourth and less than one during the last few seconds of the game when the Gators were in scoring position and they ran Tebow up the middle. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. They could have done a quarterback option, a short pass or any other run to the sides and have been far better off.
I’m tired of Dan Mullen’s play calling and the fact that he is not aggressive throughout the whole game. It wasn’t until the last few minutes of the game that Florida was aggressive and made big plays easily and quickly.
6. Blocked PAT - How did I know this was going to happen? Because I’ve been to Ole Miss vs. Florida games and things like this always seem to happen. That should not have happened. Unbelievable.
7. Not Using All The Playmakers - Chris Rainey only ran two or three plays. Moody had three plays and then was out with an injury. Demps was never used. Brandon James only had one reception (other than some good punt returns). Some of the other receivers didn’t get used much.
8. Missed Tackles - How many did Florida miss that could have made a huge difference in the game??? WAY TOO MANY!!!
9. Dropped Passes - Several key catches were dropped by some of the Florida receivers.
10. Not Ready - The Gators were not ready for this game. I think they overlooked Ole Miss even though Coach Meyer stressed that Ole Miss was the toughest team they have played up to this point. He tried to hammer this home, especially because he knew Ole Miss had some good passing ability.
However, I’m not worried about this loss. I think the Gators needed this loss!! Just like in 2006 when they lost to Auburn, they needed it! They regrouped and came back stronger. The team leaders set the tone for the rest of the year and the Gators poured it on. I think this loss will help do the same.
Also, it’s early in the season. So if this is the only loss they suffer, they still have a good chance of getting to the SEC championship game and then to the BCS championship. So I’m not too worried about this loss. In fact, they could potentially lose one more game and still be okay if the cards fall in their favor.
We’ll have to see how it goes. Same for USC.
I want the U and FSU to become football powerhouses again. I think it would be sick if 1 Miami, 2 FSU, and 3 Florida (yea I know I live in a dreamland).
I’d like to see this too. But I want Florida to be number 1. FSU and Miami can fight it out for 2 and 3!
TCU is going to get crushed.
Probably. But you never know in college football. Upsets happen all the time!!! Even when you least expect them.
I think Alabama is going to beat Georgia as well.
I’m changing my mind after the Florida loss. Alabama over Georgia! Go 'Bama!!![/quote]
Great analysis of the game, Nate, I really can’t agree more. I’m having a big internal struggle as of late about how I feel about Urban Meyer. It was easy to feel good about him when he won the NC off of Zook’s guys, but as his own team is coming into fruition, I’m really starting to wonder if he has what it takes to make at UF. Yes, most of the teams are going to lose. Yes, it was against Ole Miss who’s played them extremely difficult in the past. Yes, Tebow overthrow a WIDE OPEN Louis Murphy!
There was just a lot of bad play yesterday… people were talking shit to me all day (because of course, Michigan just HAD to come back from being down 19-0,) but I was simply dumbfounded. I had no counterargument and most of the debates ended with me saying, “Wow, those Gators looked BAD.”
On a side note, are you an alum? How do you get to those games so close and get those pictures of Tebow? I’m really thinking about UF for graduate school…
