So the BCS standings are out and Alabama only slipped to third. Now I’m a Bama Alum but I think they should have at least fallen behind Stanford.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think Standford is all that great of a football team. They have a outstanding QB but no speed on the outside and they’re best receivers are their TE’s. Add to that a defense thats got some big holes and it doens’t equal NC to me, but until they lose they should be ranked above a one loss Bama.
Another thing thats bothering me is that suddenly LSU and Bama’s offfenses are terrible because of how they played against the top 2 defenses in the country. LSu hung 40 on Oregon and 47 on West Virginia so I’m pretty sure they aren’t terrible. Why does any one think its odd that two fairly above average offenses got shut down by the two best defenses?
I’ll say that I’m happy OU lost early, especially with losing Broyles this weekend. I certainly don’t want to be the team that has to play LSU for the Nat’l Champ game. OU, Stanford, Okie State - all great college teams. Bama and LSU? Those are more like pro teams.

It all depends on your point of view. If you like defensive play then you loved it. If you need a 42-35 game where the defenses just stand there then it probably wasn’t your game.
But if you need that sort of play you should probably have been watching the PAC-10 game anyway.[/quote]
Being from Louisiana, I approached the game to stay calm, enjoy the historical perspective, not get to high or low. It wasn’t as hard to watch as I would imagine a game like that but I am a fan. Plus, we aren’t accustomed to watching an LSU QB throw for 300-400 yds and 3 TDs regularly so it is normally a lot of brick wall. The game actually passed pretty fast…the whiskey and jambalaya probably helped that too.

Late Fri. and into Sat., I heard on local ESPN radio how the offenses Alabama had faced averaged 108th and I started thinking how LSU could score some points and pull away late. NOT!
You are right though. They are averaging 35+ most weeks. this was a testament to 2 really good defenses, which make good offenses look bad much less some not sl flashy offenses. The bottom line was just about each category was a wash except special teams and that was the difference.

Both teams offenses aren’t good. They get a lot of opportunities to score because of their defenses making turnovers/scoring on their own. Plus special teams scores.
LSU & Oregon wasn’t nearly as lopsided as the final score indicated. Oregon fumbled the ball away 3 times inside their own 30 (I believe)

Not comparable, neither the Raven or Steelers defenses are so above thier level of competition as LSU/Bama’a are.

I liked the game. I am a big fan of defensive play, big hits and QB’s having to make plays or not make plays while under pressure.
It’s why I like college ball more than pro ball. In the NFL they’ve handicapped the defenses so that a lot of the time it looks like a bad game of Madden.
Has anyone comiserated on the Michigan loss to Iowa yet?
They didn’t deserve that win, as badly as they got hosed by the officials the Wolverines shouldn’t have even been in that position to lose as bad as they did. Their D played well enough, but the offense kept punting Iowa into awesome field position.
Denard Robinson isn’t dominant. He throws off his back foot and flies over his recievers way too much. The playcalling, especially at the end of the game was awful. Not sure how a Michigan team figures to pass the ball for three straight downs when they’re at the three yard line. I need to see Michigan beat the ball down the middle successfully for me to believe they deserve any sort of top 25 ranking, and they just aren’t doing it.
Illinois will give them all they can handle next week, Nebraska will probably whip a couple years off their lives, and Ohio State? That’s a push, for right now.

Denard better get it in his mind to be a slot receiver in the NFL, cause no way in hell will that kid be an NFL QB

Yea I know but it is what it is.
Really though do you think a Pac 10 team is going to be in it?

LOL.
Hmmm I don’t know. There is so much left to happen but I could see it. If Stanford wins out (big game this weekend against Oregon) then they will have a chance but they need OK State to lose. If they both win out then Stanford won’t get a shot… So it’s really hard to tell. OK State still has to play Oklahoma though so we’ll see.
