Im trying to introduce coconut oil to my diet due to its health benefits. Is there a specific brand thats very good for you that I can get at vitaminshoppe? I saw they have organic ones there.
Also, silly question, but do I refrigerate it or just store it on a shelf? I plan to eat it by the spoon.
Last question, what is a recommended amount?
I use the “Garden of Life” brand, which can be found on the VS site. I don’t bother to refrigerate since I go through it pretty quickly… plus, I hate scraping it out with a plastic measuring spoon so I prefer it to stay liquid.
I try to get 3 tbsp per day, though I’d definitely go higher if I could afford it. Delicious stuff.
1.) Get something organic, and make sure it’s extra-virgin coconut oil. Heat at medium temperatures. No particular brand recommendation, there’s lots. Use intuition about which ones are B/S.
2.) Just store it on the shelf. If you can keep it warm throughout the day it’ll be a lot easier to use - so maybe try to keep it near a window if you live in a warm-weather location.
3.) For Christs’ sake, cook with it or something instead of eating by the spoon. That’s what peanut/almond butter is for bro, lol.
4.) Depends on your macros and how well you handle it. I cook with it multiple times a day, never weighing/scaling it out. MCTs FTW.
3 TBSP everyday for me now.
I like Jarrow Formula, solid brand and you can find it in local health stores, though Amazon is 1/2 the price.
Spectrum would be another good brand.
I used to store in fridge, but its’ a PITA to get out, in the cupboard is fine unless you don’t use it for a long ass time perhaps. and you keep your house at a moderate temp 70-74* probably best or lower

How much are you paying? I get it on Amazon for $14 (free shipping) for 32oz.
Anyone have any thoughts on extra-virgin vs just regular? Walmart says a non-extra-virgin kind for 7 bucks a tub or so.
I’d prolly skip wal-mart versions (if it were me), unless you can find a reputable brand…
I use the spectrum brand (extra virgin unrefined) but I could only find it in the haircare section of my supermarket, the only ingredient is expeller extra virgin unrefined though so it’s fine
I use it on steamed vegetables mostly, or cook with it.
I use it in coffee’s with cream (thank you Kiefer!) cook with it (awesome for omletes) and make sure to take it pre workout (either with coffee or on its own)
as Anonym says about 3 Tbsp and day is a good healthy dose. This is about what they use to treat people with Alzheimers btw. Not that I imagine thats a concern. Hopefully (;
Are there any evco cooking sprays? I keep my EVCO in a cupboard so it stays solid. I’ve been using this EVOO that you pump the lid and then spray the pan. Seems to be pretty good for cooking. Wonder if there is something similar for EVCO that can stay liquid at room temp.
yes, Spectrum makes a spray version

what are they using to keep it liquified?
Anybody buy those gallon(7.5-8#) pails of coconut oil? I was thinking of picking up one or two. I’ve seen them priced from ~$70 to $100+.

I have thought about it but never have that money set aside to bulk buy it. Might save up because the way I go through it, should be worth while.

Bull sperm… honestly I don’t recall. And, my gut tells me it’s not the best to consume much of it daily in this way.
I use the walmart one

I went to their website. It just says coconut oil spray. It doesn’t appear to be EVCO. I honestly don’t even know what the difference is between the two.
swanson has their brand of coconut oil for under $7 that ive been using.
Yea what’s the difference?
