Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

What you guys think of EV Coconut Oil? I was thinking of ordering a bulk buy to help bulk me up, get my fat count up throughout the day. What does it taste like? and could you use it as 90% of your fat intake? There are some pretty good reviews on health benifits, but none are realtive to bodybuilding

VCO kicks ass. It’s both healthy and can promote thermogenesis and energy production more readily than other fats. It sort of tastes like coconuts, but is otherwise flavorless. Solid at room temp, melts in your mouth. I wouldn’t suggest using it at 90% of my fat intake as you won’t get a good balance of fats from other sources, but it can safely be used in large quantities. I eat about 100g per day, but that’s maybe 25-35% of my total intake.

You can’t go wrong with one of the healthiest fats on the planet.

To get the health benefits they recommend taking 3 tablespoons a day.

The first thing I will add once I am doing my velocity diet is coconut oil. Tropical Traditions . com has been my source for years. Best pricing.

I haven’t tried coconut oil, but I do buy coconuts. Sure, they’re a bitch to open, but they’ll help up your calories and fat. You should still get the oil, but consider eating them whole too.

I purchased mine through amazon.com

I couldn’t find it in any of the stores out here which is suprising.

I bought some at a local ethnic sort of market called Wholesome Choice, but it has a nasty smell. Like rancid bacon grease. Tastes weird too. The pork tenderloin I cooked in it, we could barely eat. I take it it’s not supposed to smell or taste like this? I didn’t think this stuff went rancid easily.

The brand is Laxmi.

Edit: I love the taste of coconut, but this definitely doesn’t taste like coconut.

hey anderson, do you happen to live in irvine?

EV coconut oil is great stuff. Integrate at least a couple of tablespoons in your diet. Make sure to get the cold pressed unrefined kind.

Whole Foods carries Jungle Products EV cold pressed organic coconut oil here in Los Angeles. You can also find it in many nutrition/supplement stores.

Not at all, you must have bought a bad one. It lasts for years.

Good stuff. For a yummy treat, eat it mixed with peanut butter.

Yup.

Probably the only such store, huh? I don’t think it’s a chain. It took over Wild Oats before WO got bought out by Whole Foods.

beware - some companies use the junk stuff that comes from processing coconuts for oil and pass that off as edible.

coconut oil makes for a great natural sunscreen also.

How else do you all use it?

In shakes? On top of salads?

I’m guessing you can cook chicken, fish, beef in it, but will it cook off? Sorry don’t know much about cooking other than how to cook plain ground beef and throw some chicken cutlets on the foreman.

Well, beware of Laxmi brand. It probably sat in a hot warehouse in India for a decade before it made it into the store here.

You can cook with it, but I use the special tasteless brand from tropical traditions. If you use standard one your food will have a slight coconut taste.

Expeller Express is the cooking one.

Tropical Traditions.com

The best place I found for adding to a food is with oats, 2 tablespoons adds a nice light coconut flavor.

I use it. I find that a high fat breakfast provides me with the most energy for most of the day so I usually incorporate coconut oil in my breakfast routine. One teaspoon of cod-liver oil, one tablespoon of coconut oil, both straight off the spoon. If I miss a day I can tell and have considerably less energy-or rather-endurance. It’s good stuff if you can stand the intense coconut smell.

I like the taste.

Great to cook with…

yeah i guess haha, i like wholesome choice’s takeout section though. good tip on the coconut oil, i am just going to order some online.

Be careful you do buy extra virgin coconut oil. There are companies that sell hydrogenated coconut oil, believe it or not, and you want to avoid that.
