He says he has gymnasts doing hanging leg raises with 50 lb hanging off their legs…
The most I’ve seen someone on Youtube using is… 5 lb!

5?
I’ve never seen 50 but most people. I’ve seen start at least 20 and from number of reps could hit 30…more.
Eh

They could probaby do double that when they are fully recovered.
50 lbs. does sound very impressive! I’d watch that.
While this is more than possible, I’d like to see a video for official confirmation.

i absolutely guarantee that those were either A. shitty hanging knee raises B. those ghey leg raises on one of the roman chairs or whatever that supports your back and forearms or C. the scariest, swinging hanging led raises ive ever seen.
from what i know, sommer has his athletes perform hanging leg raises on a stall bar which is even harder than a pullup bar because you cant use your lats to assist you. also rmmbr that they have to touch the bar from which theyre hanging with their shins. 50 pounds is fucking incredible. so much so that until i see a vid, i entirely dont even believe that.

ok yea I was thinking the ones done on the air chair thing.
The ones hanging off a pullup bar? 50 lbs is sick.
Ive done them with a 30lb medball hanging from rings, but poster above is correct, knees were bent.

They are harder in the sense that you don’t need to use your lats as stabilizers as much (in a free hanging leg raise, you’d have to brace your lats and arms to stop yourself from swinging) so all the stress is transferred to the abs and legs.
For those who’ve never seen one, here’s a pic of the leg raise (Coach Sommer sometimes calls 'em hanging leg lifts).
